^^This is Jess. I adjusted their vest to better fit their shape. I also hemmed their pants, but that vest though!
These are a couple special items a bridal client had made with the lace of her mother’s bridal gown (that she wore). I only made the custom neck tie with ivory silk and the lace for the groom, and her mother made the ring-bearer’s pillow.
Time to use this thing.
I’ve let this thing die away in things I forget to pay attention to every day.
But I don’t think I’ll be leaving it alone as an inspiration board anymore, I want to start allowing myself to communicate with people; one step at a time, but I’ll get along.
Today is September 21st, 2015. Last year, in July, I made my ideas legit and got a business license for Sweetlime Alterations, my Queer Tailoring and Alterations business.
The idea for Sweetlime is simple: stop judging people for whatever it is that makes them feel good about themselves when they leave the house...through clothing alterations for the individual, not the standard.
The base of it all stems from meeting gender non-conforming individuals struggling with shopping; when they could actually find clothes that fit them, sales people and tailors made them feel uncomfortable and judged for just trying to live truthfully.
Once I got the word out about the idea, I started getting calls and appointments with people that wouldn’t necessarily identify as Queer, but identify with being unhappy with their own retail and alterations experiences.
So in only a year, “Queer Tailoring” has already evolved and grown, but exists truly to make sure people leave the house a little more confidently than they did before they worked with me.
So today I’m deciding to connect and communicate how Sweetlime and I progress. Whether it be stories of interesting new projects or updates on the Kickstarter campaign I’ll be rolling out soon, I hope they reach new folks and old friends alike.
And who knows, maybe it’ll even help keep me on some kind of routine.
See you soon,
Gabi xo
P.s. let me know if I should preview my Kickstarter video on here, haven’t decided yet.
