After the boy died in Lance's arms, something in him had changed. Not just the fact that a person - who told him he was cancer free, ready to live the life he always wanted - died in his arms. Sweets seemed changed, like his goal in life had shifted.
„Lance. What are you doing here?“ Daisy asked, surprised as she saw Lance entering the platform.
„I came to offer my services,“ he explained, „Earthquakes can cause psychological trauma.“
„Yes. For you baby,“ Daisy interrupted him, „What you've been through-„
„I'm fine, Daisy.“
Cam looked at him with a worried look, „Sweets, you saw somebody die.“ Anyone could see she hit right in the spot, when Sweets looked at the ground.
„I know my Lancelot. You needed to see me, didn't you?“ Daisy stepped forward towards Lance, but he backed up just a little. „No, I'm just trying to do my job.“ he distanced himself.
„Oh.“ Daisy's gaze was obvious and not only Cam but Dr. Brennan could see it.
Easing the tension a little, probably unintentionally, Dr. Brennan addresses Sweets, „Booth told you to go home. He knows about things like this, Sweets.“. „We'll call if we need you, I promise. We'll have Hodgins drive you home.“ Cam added in a caring tone. Lance nodded in thanks, before turning around to leave the platform.
„Bye, Lancelot.“ Daisy tried, only earning a short wave from him and a gaze from Dr. Brennan.
She seemed sad when he left just like that, but right now, this was not what he needed. What he needed was-
You felt a chest bump against yours, looking up you saw Lance. „Sorry, Lance.“ You backed a step away from him to give him space. Lance just shook his head. You knew what happened just a few hours ago. You knew Lance. The corners of his mouth had dropped, and his eyes had lost their sparkle. His usually red lips were completely pale. Lance looked terrible, terribly haunted.
„I'm here if you want, you know. You can call me if you need anything, food, talking… or just to not be alone.“. Lance closed the space between you two and hugged you. You could feel his heart beat, his arms pressing you against his chest, and his face in the crook of your neck. He needed to bend down a little to do so.
You bedded your head against his collar bone and wrapped your arms tightly around his torso. Lance smelled of his perfume and the scent surrounded you. It made you feel… so many things. Safe, calm, even loved. You quickly tried to get that last thought out of your head. You knew he and Daisy broke up, but still, you two were so close you didn't want to challenge that if he wasn't feeling the same.
„Note the victims clavicle.“ Brennan said. Daisy turned around as Cam added, „It's dented.“
„And blue.“ Daisy stated. „There's also a blue nick on the C7“. „Something blue pierced his clavicle and went through to the back of his neck.“ Cam added to what Brennan had said.
„That would've sliced through the carotid artery.“ she finished.
Brennan nodded, „Ms. Wick, take molds of the clavicle for a possible weapon, and swab the blue pigment for Hodgins.“ she instructed Daisy. But when Daisy turned around, she stopped short when she saw how Lance seemed to be holding on to you.
You seemed to steady him. She knew it was no longer going to work out between them, and she was glad you were able to give Lance what he needed, but it still ached. Dr. Brennan and Cam tracked her gaze. Cam smiled when she saw the two of you, but she also shared a sympathetic look with Dr. Brennan. They could all see how familiar you tow felt with each other.
„Thank you.“ Lance whispered against your neck, and you could feel a tear run down his face. „Please call me whenever you need me, no matter what time.“ you mumbled into his embrace. „Mhm, I will.“.
Once more Lance tightened his hug, before letting you go. Hodgins was already waiting for him at the entrance of the Jeffersonian to drive him home.
You looked after Lance, but you didn't dare to turn around. You knew that Dr. Brennan, Cam and Daisy were watching. And at that moment you realized just how intimate this situation had been.

I scanned my card and got into the FBI building and made my way to the elevator with my cup of coffee in one hand. I entered the elevator and pressed the button to my floor. This wasn’t a normal week, we were all on edge because the Jeffersonian discovered several bodies disfigured and killed in similar fashion and as our special agents gathered more evidence, we have come to the conclusion that there is, in fact, a serial killer on the loose in the state of South Carolina. I heard the ding of the elevator and watched the doors open as they pulled me out of my stressed glance. I walked out and headed towards my office, where I noticed Agent Booth was waiting for me.
“Can’t get enough of me, can you Seeley?” I raised my eyebrow and let out a chuckle.
“Ha ha ha, very funny. I do have a few questions though, before you open your office.”
I paused as I was just about to put the key in the lock, I turned around to look at him and I nodded my head and leaned up against the frame to the door, “Go ahead, shoot it.”
“Alright, so you have a degree in Cryptography, correct?”
“I have a Masters in Cryptography, correct.”
“Oh, awesome!”
“Next question?” I asked as I arched my eyebrow, not knowing where this was going.
“We discovered a few new bodies from our old pal the unnamed sk. And Bones and Dr.Saroyan think they found cyphers... Would you be able to come down and look at them?” Booth asked as he held his breath.
I sighed as I put the keys to my office back into my bag and lifted myself from the door frame I was just leaning on, Booth let out the breath he had held. I made my way back to the elevator.
“I’ll call Dr.Saroyan and let them know you’re on your way.” Booth said.
I pushed the down button on the elevator and I looked back at Booth before he disappeared into his own office.
“He owes me a drink.” I whispered to myself with a chuckle.
I entered the Jeffersonian and showed my badge to the security guards, they let me walk in and I immediately made my way to Dr.Saroyans office. I knocked on the door and she looked up at me with a smile.
“Thank you so much for coming on such short notice Agent Y/L/N, we greatly appreciate it,” She said as she got up from her desk and made her way to me, “If you just follow me, Bones has the bodies lined up with the cyphers. I don’t know if Booth told you but the cyphers are...on...the bodies.”
My breath hitched at the last sentence that came out of her mouth, but it was too late to say anything because now I was face to face with these bodies.
“Agent Y/L/N, thank you for coming. These are the two cyphers we found on the bodies. This body on the left has been dead longer than the one on the right, if you need that information for your research.” Bones said as she made her way over to me so we could shake hands.
I shook her hand and grabbed the pen and pad of paper that I noticed on the table and wrote down each cypher and headed to Angela’s office.
“Can I use your computer for the cyphers, Angela?” I asked as she looked at me, shocked I was in her office.
“Oh of course honey, I’ll just get out of your way.” She said as she moved some things off the table to make room for me.
I took a picture of the two cyphers and transferred the images onto the computer. I decided to conquer the first cypher, going through common cyphers that anyone could figure out to some that were more for someone who wanted to keep their trail hidden. It took a few hours but I cracked it...finally.
“These children that come at you with knives – they are your children. You taught them. I didn’t teach them. I just tried to help them stand up.”
“I know that from somewhere.” Angela said, looking at my solved cypher on the screen.
“It’s Charles Manson, cult leader of the “Manson Family” “ I replied as I then pulled up the second cypher, and used the same method from the first cypher to see if they matched and alas, they did.
“Better by you, Better than Me.”
Angela started to speak, “I know that. That’s...”
“The song by Judas Priest that caused them to be on trial for subliminal messages that supposedly caused a boys suicide.” I cut in, staring at the screen.
“How did that trial pan out?” Angela asked as she crossed her arms, looking at the screen of the computer.
“Oh, they were found not guilty. Quite an interesting story though, Rolling Stones covered it, you should read into it.”
Angela and I were in that room for hours, trying to come up with some idea of what these cyphers could mean and why they were being used in these murders. Eventually my watches alarm went off, signalling that it was time to go home. We closed the windows down and I wished everyone a good night and a safe return home for the night. I walked into the parking garage and unlocked the door to my car. I put my bags in the passenger seat and my coffee cup in the cupholder. I hopped into my drivers seat, turned my car on and drove to my shared apartment. When I pulled into my parking spot, I noticed Sweets wasn’t home yet. I shrugged it off as a late session and I made my way up to our shared apartment to start on dinner. I made seared steak tips with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus. I texted Sweets about when he was going to get back but after 10 minutes of no response I sighed and wrapped his food up and put it in a free spot in the refrigerator.
I went and sat on the couch and got on to Netflix and started to watch “Seed of Chucky” since that always put me in a brighter mood. About 2 hours later the movie finished and there was still no sign of him. I was thoroughly annoyed at this point and just shut the television off and headed to bed. I got into my pyjamas and got into bed and turned the lights off. I was just about to drift into my slumber when I felt hands wrap around my body and a kiss was delicately placed upon the back of my head.
“Where the fuck were you?” I asked, not rolling over.
“W-What? What are you talking about?” Sweets asked, which prompted me to roll over.
“Where the fuck where you?” I asked again, now looking at him.
“What are you talking about Y/N? I texted you that a few of us from the office went out for dinner and drinks.”
“No you didn’t Lance. I wouldn’t be upset if you simply just texted me and let me know.”
“I’ll show you then.” Lance grabbed his phone and opened it, he then sucked air in and then sighed.
“It didn’t send, but I did text you...see?” He said as he showed me his phone, lo and behold it was there but it never sent.
“You should’ve double checked.” I said, with a sign as I turned back over.
“You’re right, I should’ve checked to make sure you got it. I’m sorry. How can I make it up to you?”
I turned back over and pulled him over to me, “Oh, I have an idea.” I said with a smirk.
“Okay, so I love our baby with all of my heart but I think maybe I love sleep more,” Lance hugged a pillow to his midriff, looking about as exhausted as you felt.
“On that I think we can agree,” you chuckled, trying to ignore the tiredness behind your eyes. Never getting enough sleep was a part of parenthood the two of you were still adjusting to. There were a lot of great things about having a baby. It was just harder to enjoy them sometimes through the sleep deprivation. “Caffeine and naps are becoming my best friends.”
His lips quirked into a smile, “I thought I was supposed to be your best friend.”
“I can have more than one.”
“That defeats the purpose of the title,” he pointed out.
You shot him a look, “I will fight you, babe.”
He rubbed his hands down his face to hide his grin, “Please don’t, you’ll wake the baby again.”
“Fine. A ceasefire for now. But this isn’t over,” a tired smile tugged at the edges of your mouth. “Weehawken, dawn. Guns drawn.”

Back at the Lab (9:00am):
“I can’t imagine how hard this is for Y/n” Angela said to Brennan.
“That isn’t our job right now” Brennan replied, “Right now, we have to be objective and work this case as we would any other. We need to eliminate emotion to eliminate the possibility for error. That’s how we catch this guy. And that is how we help Y/N”
“You’re right, I just wish there was something we could do now” Angela said before leaving the platform.
Hodgins and Cam came running up almost simultaneously. “I found time of death,” Cam said, “according to the tissue samples, the victim had been dead just over two days when we found him. Meaning he was most likely murdered on Sunday.” she finished.
Hodgins then jumped in, “Based on evidence I found from the particulates, I believe that he was murdered in California and then transported to the high school.”
“Doctor Brennan, have you found anything that would constitute to cause of death?”
“There are multiple fractures that indicate abuse or torture, there is also a needle puncture here” she puts a bone under the magnifier. “But until the tox screen comes back, there is not enough evidence for me to speculate on cause of death” she answers as she continues to look at the bones. Hodgins and Cam left to let her work in peace. Angela was in her office going through your brother’s phone records and emails. So far there was nothing out of the ordinary.
Meanwhile At the Bureau:
Booth was busy at work trying to look up your family history. Everything had been sealed. He was confused why he had to jump through so many hoops if your parents had only died in a car accident. Unless, it was more than a car accident? He wondered if you had lied to him. What if you were lied to, after all, you were only 12 when they died? Either way he continued to dig deeper.
You were awoken abruptly when you heard a door slam. You were disoriented at first, you had no clue where you were or how you got there. Then it slowly started to sink in, everything that you had been through yesterday. Just then Sweets re-entered the room. “I’m sorry if I woke you,” he said placing bags on the ground by his desk before handing you a cup of coffee. It was peppermint mocha, your favorite. “I brought you some clothes from your house, they are in that bag if you want them,” he said gesturing towards on of the bags he had just sat down.
“Thanks,” you replied. You sat there for a moment in silence drinking your coffee before getting up, grabbing the bag, and exiting his office to go change.
When you got to the bathroom and saw yourself in the mirror, you started to cry. You hadn’t realized you still had dried blood on you. You furiously scrubbed at your arms to get it off. You were a mess. When you finally got it off you changed into the outfit that Sweets had brought you. You attempted to fix your hair, but wound up just putting into a messy bun. You splashed cold water on your face. You still couldn’t believe that any of this was actually happening. You stood there for a moment staring at your reflection. You barely recognized the person staring back.
Finally, you discarded the clothes in the trash and returned to Sweets’ office. He was on his computer. He looked up at you as you entered. You wanted to say something but couldn’t find the words. Just then he spoke up, “I can’t imagine what you are feeling right now, and coming from a psychologist that is saying something. If you need someone to talk to I am here. If you need someone to sit in silence and just be here for you, I’m here. Just let me know what you need.” You looked at him in awe.
“Thanks Sweets it means a lot” you said before taking a seat on his couch.
Later at the Jeffersonian:
Booth had just walked in, Angela had just buzzed him into the podium. “Y/n’s parents weren’t killed in just any car accident. They were both CSI agents. They were undercover on a mission that went bad. They were killed on route to a identity protection agency safe house. I don’t have specifics on the case, but I was able to find out that the main suspect was Richard Pilaski. Richard Pilaski just so happened to be in California in Sunday. So I had the guys run the facial recognition software in areas where the pictures of Y/n where taken. And BINGO. Richard Pilaski. I have a APB out on him now,” he informed everyone.
“I was wondering if you could try to track his records?” he asked Angela. She nodded and he followed her out.
Brennen had been struggling which cause of death. The timeline was starting to fill itself in. They were now reasonable certain that your brother was drugged and kidnapped on Saturday, hence the needle puncture. He was then tortured until when he was killed. Due to state of deterioration, he was likely transported in a vehicle with no ventilation. It was not until he was in Washington that he was chopped into pieces. He was then strategically placed outside the high school in plain view. She went over this timeline again and again. Then she would look at the bones again trying to find something that she missed. Then she realized her flaw, she was assuming that there would be evidence in the bones. But if he was still alive when he was placed in the car, he would have ran out of oxygen in the drive from California to Washington D.C. She went immediately to share her findings with Hodgins.

Heidi walked into the Jeffersonian and found her way to her new bosses office. She had just graduated with her PhD in Forensic Odontology and this is her first REAL job. She had many credible internships and temporary and volunteer jobs, but nothing really secure in her field.
"Dr.Clarina, you're... early." Dr. Saroyan said in a bit of a shocked tone.
"Yes I am. Early is on time, on time is late, and late...you shouldn't even bother." Heidi said with a bit of a cheeky grin.
"Right. Well... welcome to the team here at the Jeffersonian. I was a bit shocked that you enthusiastically wanted a job here. I would've thought you would like to have something a little bigger than this with all your knowledge and classifications." Dr. Saroyan stated as she led you to her office.
You walked in and sat down in front of her desk, basking in her myriad of diploma's, plaques, and pictures. She sat down and started typing on her computer.
"You are our only odontologist, but don't get cocky with that. Dr.Brennan is more your superior. I am your boss, but you're not technically my department. Dr.Brennan handles more of the bones in the facility so she is your...boss if you will. She is a bit intimidating and very fact-based, just as a slight warning. I will show you around so you are more familiar with the space you will be working in." Dr.Saroyan got up and handed you your badge with a smile, "Welcome to the team."
Dr.Saroyan had you follow her all over the Jeffersonian and showed you where everything was and ended at your station.
"This is where I set you free. Dr.Brennan will be in soon with some dental models you need to start to analyse for us. If you have any questions, feel free to find me or ask Dr.Brennan." Dr.Saroyan said as she made her way back to her office.
Heidi looked all around her station. A desk, television, tools upon tools for analysing, paper, the whole nine yards. Heidi was basking in contentment when there was a knock on the door.
"Hello Dr.Clarina, I'm Dr.Brennan. I am the Forensic Anthropologist here at the Jeffersonian. I am apart of the team that decided to hire you. Normally I tend to make new recruits prove themselves, but your work is rather marvellous to begin with so I see no need in that. You are quite knowledgeable in your field and I look forward to working with you." Dr.Brennan said as she wheeled in few skulls.
She explained what she needed to be done with the samples on the cart. The skulls were severely broken and in very rough shape and she cannot identify with the little bit of the skull that is remaining. Heidi got right to work. Several hours later Heidi brought the skulls back to Brennan and explained what she had found.
"Male, approximately 10 to 15, on the heavy side. Female, approximately mid-thirties, suffered from an eating disorder at some point. And another female, approximately early twenties, average." Heidi said as she showed Brennan through the telescope.
As the work kept piling up, eventually it was time to go. The end of Heidi's first day had come to an end. It went by quickly, as she had hoped. She packed up her things and headed home with a smile on her face.
A month had gone by and Heidi has been on the top of her game. She has helped identify over 20 corpses faster than anyone had seen with dead set accuracy. Heidi beams every time she is at work. She has quickly become the star of the Jeffersonian. One day she was working on identifying a skull when she heard a knock on her door. She looked up and saw a very cute guy standing in her doorway.
"Hello Dr.Clarina, I'm Sweets I'm the..." He stopped in his tracks and his jaw dropped. He was completely struck by the beautiful woman before him.
"I'm the psychologist uh...here at the uh...Jeffersonian. I needed some clarification on a few of your findings." He finished, miraculously.
Heidi gladly pulled out the skulls and evidence in question and thoroughly explained how she came to her conclusions. Sweets thanked her and started to head out before he came back in.
"Are you free tonight? After work?" He asked as he started to blush.
"I am free tonight after work." Heidi said as she was putting the skulls away.
"Would you like to go out for a drink later?" He asked, his blushing getting more intense by the second.
Heidi smiled, "I would love that." She replied.
The workday eventually came to a close, Heidi was finishing cleaning up when there was a knock on her door. She stacked the last set of files and looked up and saw Sweets in her doorway. He smiled at her as she grabbed her coat and they headed out the door talking and smiling.
They had not stopped talking the entire time they were at the bar. They had told each other everything about them. It was quickly approaching midnight and they both agreed that it was time to go home and get some rest. Sweets walked her to her car.
"You know, even though I'm a psychologist I never really believed in love at first sight... but I think you might have made me change my mind." He said as he looked toward the ground.
"Oh really?" She said as she cocked her eyebrow and a smirk came across her face. She leaned in and kissed him on the cheek. He started to blush.
"I would love to do this again." Sweets said, stammering in the process.
"I would too." She said with a smile as she got into her car.
Sweets walked to his car and did a little dance to himself. He was so madly in love, and she was too and they didn't want to have it any other way.
Imagine Sweets getting jealous of an old college friend of yours.
You hated fighting with Lance, especially over something so petty. It hurt your feelings to think he thought so little of you. You were supposed to be able to trust each other. For him to be so jealous over a former college friend as to get into a shouting match about it sucked. You hated yelling. It meant you were both coming from a place of anger and emotion instead of logic. Neither of you were very clear headed and both of you had said some things you regretted.
It was him who came to apologize first. He sat down heavily on the couch next to you and took your hand in his, not quite looking at you. "I'm sorry," he mumbled out. "I should have had more faith in you. It's just... sometimes it's hard for me to believe you've picked me. Out of all the people out there. You're so amazing and I'm just me."
You pursed your lips and turned your head to look at him. "You shouldn't follow an apology with an excuse." His face fell until you leaned over to kiss his cheek. "But I do forgive you. And I'm sorry too. I probably could've communicated better. And for the record, green doesn't suit you."
