On a recent walk I spotted this beautiful group of Viola odorata 'Alba' (common violet, English violet, sweet violet). This white flowering form like the purple, fragrant flowered species is a rhizomatous perennial forming a loose mat of heart-shaped leaves. A UK native the plant is well-known for growing in woodlands, hedgerows and pasture land.
