A weak but symmetrical low to the NE of Bermuda apparently developed enough surface wind energy to send today's 3.5 foot swell to our shores. This swell's arrival has blended with the tapering swell of last week, however there is a directional shift that's become more easterly than SE and also a period jump from around nine seconds back up to ten and eleven seconds indicating that it is a new swell. Winds north of the Cape are moderate N/NE creating a lumpy surface while south of the Cape winds are more S/SW which isn't helping conditions there either. Based on beach CAM evidence, the outer Cape looks the cleanest this morning.
A developing area of low pressure to our SW will quickly traverse the region overnight into Thursday & rapidly intensify. Because of its timing & position, a short lived NE wind swell may be generated north of Cape Cod, while RI may see a large but also short lived southerly wind swell early tomorrow morning. Winds will be changing direction rapidly and will blow hard offshore Thursday quickly knocking down any wind wave energy. Temps will drop into the 30's tomorrow with a burst of snow tomorrow morning. Most of ski country should see either side of 6 inches from this system. The weekend right now looks to be cool and quiet.
