I Yust Go Nuts at Christmas - I have this 78 rpm record that I play on my 100-year-old Victrola every year.  The flip side is Yingle Bells.  The record was released in 1949 and sold over one million copies.  None of my family were Swedish, but my Polish grandfather who bought the Victrola and the record may have enjoyed poking fun at Scandinavians.

Harry Stewart was an entertainer, singer, comedian, and songwriter from Tacoma, Washington.  He was best known for his portrayal of Yogi Yorgesson, a comically exaggerated Swedish American.  His parents were Norwegian.  He recorded over forty songs as Yogi Yorgesson and later adopted other comic personas for some of his releases - a Japanese character, Harry Kari, and a German, Klaus Hammerschmidt.  Although Stewart made money for Capitol, he had trouble impressing music critics who didn’t appreciate his humor.  He died in an auto accident in 1956 at the age of 48 after falling asleep at the wheel.

It baffles me so much when people are like “wow there’s so many anglicisms in this text” or like “you speak so much Swenglish” because I don’t even think twice about it? Intergrading English into my everyday Swedish vocabulary and speech/writing is so normal to me that I don’t even realize I’m doing it?
