different kinds of kisses
The past few days spent in Ordon Village had been some of the best of her life. The village, though active during the day between the children running around and the residents tending to their crops and animals, was much more calm and serene than Hyrule Castle or Castle Town. Zelda was particularly fond of how quiet and quaint the forest village was, enjoying walks through the shaded wood paths in the evenings or reading out by the spring.
They were headed back to the village from the forest, having just made it to Ordon Bridge, when thunder rumbled over head, sounding just before the sky opened in a downpour of rain.
Link and Zelda had done their best to hurry back, but their efforts were futile. They were halfway across the bridge when the onslaught of rain came down, and by the time they made it to the part of the trail that opened to Ordon Spring, they were both drenched. Despite the saturated clothes that clung tight and heavy around her body and the hair that stuck to her face, the princess couldn’t help but to laugh. When was the last time she’d been out in the rain like this? When was the last time she hadn’t had to care about how pristine she and her clothes looked?
When the princess realized Link was now laughing alongside her, a grin spread to her face. They were already soaked, which meant there wasn’t any reason to rush back to the village — it wasn’t like things could get worse, though she wouldn’t have actually called this a bad situation.
A playful sparkle in her eyes, Zelda reached out to grasp onto Link’s arm, tugging him back towards the spring with her. They’d spent so much of their time here since arriving in Ordon, why let this evening be any different?
The effort to get Link to follow was minimal, and the grin on her lips only seemed to grow as he accompanied her to the edge of the spring. Removing her boots, she kicked them off to the side before holding out her arms and twirling in a circle, embracing the rain that came down on them. It felt like being a kid again, something the Hylian royal never imagined she'd once again experience. She waded out into the water, going far enough that the spring came about halfway up her shins before she turned around, casting her gaze back in Link’s direction.
The hero’s eyes were locked on her, his expression an unreadable mask. She was just about to hold out her hand and beckon for him to join her, but Link was moving before she could do so. In a matter of seconds, he’d completely closed the distance between them, his hand lifting to press against her hip.
And then he’d leaned in and kissed her.
While the kiss did initially catch the princess by surprise, she found herself melting into him as her heart pounded against her chest. It took her only a second before she was leaning into him, kissing him back as her left hand rose to tenderly caress his cheek.
They were in Ordon, caught out in the middle of a storm, and Link was kissing her! When they’d departed for this trip, Zelda never would have believed this was where it would lead.
But it couldn’t have been more perfect.
