“WHO COULD EVER LEAVE ME, DARLING BUT WHO COULD STAY”
Here’s your answer🏹💗 @taylorswift
I can’t wait to finally be able to hold a copy of the album in my hands, it’s the one event that my 2019 is built up around.

Dear Taylor,
I just wanted to thank you for opening up some very important dialogue in my house this past weekend. You see, my daughters (who are 5 and 7) ADORE you and your music. They follow along with me in getting excited about any new news/songs/announcements. Naturally they were SUPER EXCITED for a new song and immediately LOVED “You Need To Calm Down”.
My girls have learned that you use a lot of metaphors and symbolism in your music and we often have discussions about the meaning of lyrics as we listen to your music! YNTCD was no different. The second verse in particular sparked a great dialogue which I thank you so much for. We are a Christian family, my girls even go to Christian school. My husband and I however were raised completely differently. He came from a devout Christian family while I was not raised in the church and in fact spent most of my late childhood and teenage years (in the 90s) with several gay men as important instructors and mentors in my life.
We have never had a lengthy discussion about our thoughts on LGBTQ rights, mostly because it’s just never really come up in our household. After listening to YNTCD the girls were asking about the lyrics, so we talked about what it meant to be LGBTQ, why you said what you said in the lyrics and what that means to the LGBTQ community. My husband and I also had a great conversation about our faith and how some use it as a reason to condemn the LGBTQ community. In fact, our faith tells us that we should love others the way God loves us. God is the only judge, and that relationship is between each individual and God (if they believe what we do, which they very well may not).
I saw a post from another Christian calling you out for this song and condemning its message and I just want to reassure you and the LGBTQ community that does not reflect the thoughts and feelings of all of us. In fact, I don’t understand how any LGBTQ individual would feel comfortable in the church if they thought they weren’t welcome, which completely misses the point of our faith.
Thank you for using your platform to further these conversations and make progress for this community. I just wanted to share some of my thoughts and perspective since the single was released and you’ve been publicly speaking out on this topic. You are reaching many outside the community as well and inspiring many important conversations. This is why we love you so much! Keep being you 😘🦋.
Love,
A Christian Swiftie Family 💗
