Luna paced the aisle of the small bookstore, knowing what she was looking for while also not sure which one would be best. The only hint she had was from the mirror blasts she’d read every so often. Still, she thought that as long as she could find something to help him, the whole event would turn out nicely. It made her happy to think of doing something like this, and she wondered if she had her own secret cupid out there right now also wondering what to get.

Finally, she stood facing the bookshelves and closed her eyes. If she didn’t know much, she couldn’t make an accurate decision anyway, so she decided to leave it to chance. Turning to the left, she paced a few steps forward, then turned back to the wall and felt randomly for a book. Upon pulling it out, she opened her eyes and looked at the title. Still, going back to the basics wouldn’t be bad, right? She smiled, thinking of his face when he saw his gift, wondering if he would use it.

What to get Ron Weasley? Now that's a question and a half. Parvati thought this whole secret cupid thing would be fun however, she was stuck with the most impossible person to buy for. The only thing he seemed to get excited about was food, and that barely even counts. It took a lot of thought to come up with something, but she was up for a challenge. In the end, she decided on a quidditch jersey. Thanks to her parents' connections, Parvati had managed to get the entirety of the Chudley Cannons to sign a custom quidditch jersey, complete with ‘Weasley' written on the back. Honestly, it wasn't particularly hard to do, considering how low the Cannons were in the league, but she hoped he would appreciate the sentiment. Not that Ron Weasley was particularly sentimental. Parvati also threw in dinner for two at Nouvelle, the only classy way to gift someone food. She hoped he'd take Hermione on a romantic date, they could really use a push in the right direction.

Marietta had no clue as to why she'd signed up for secret cupid; it wasn't her kind of thing at all. She felt pressured into finding something spectacular; which was a highly unlikely prospect. She was sure she hadn't spoken to Alicia at all in her entire life. The gift-picking process was arduous, but in the end Marietta came up with an idea she was fairly happy with. Using her charms knowledge, she created a travel mug. However, this was no ordinary mug. She charmed it to keep the beverage inside at the exact right temperature and, using some complex magic, made it so the mug would automatically fill with whatever the drinker desired. She added some fresh roses, because what girl didn't appreciate flowers, and an assorted basket of Honeydukes' finest before delivering it secretively with a lovely handwritten name tag.

Blaise was glad that of all people, he had gotten a friend.

Long fingers closed over the box, all the vials careful sectioned off. There were six, colourful bottles. One the colour of a clear sky at midnight, one a rich gold that jewellery could be fashioned with, another a pinky-peach that mimicked the colour of a sunset. The other three were a pastel lilac, blue and a blood red. He had been half-tempted not to label them and let Pansy play a guessing game of what she was about to swallow but the responsible potioneer in him tied little tags around the corks.

There was a potion for particularly bad hangovers, one for silky soft hair, lucid dreaming, a contraceptive potion that had made him smirk as he made it, one for acne which she’d surely be offended at and an antidote for common poisons. The last one was the only serious one, a ‘just in case’ and a small ‘I sort of care about you.’ The ground unicorn hair and bezoars had cost a fortune but the pearly sheen of a successful potion on the surface of it was enough to make it worth it.

It had taken a week to brew them all and most days he had multiple cauldrons alight in his home, threatening to set the place on fire while he was out and about.

After double checking there was no leaking, Blaise pushed over the box to the weedy looking witch who stamped it and pushed it aside. He hadn’t bothered with a card but a slim piece of parchment was stuck it to, reading: ‘From your Secret Cupid.’ “One day deliver, yeah?” Blaise nodded, pulling out his wallet. “That’ll be one galleon please.” “Are you fucking kidding me? That’s ridiculous.” Her eyes narrowed and she didn’t say anything else as he slid over the thick gold coin and left, completely hive-less.

Ron was silent as he reached Lee’s doorstep in the dawn. Auror training had aided his ability for stealth. He carefully set the parcel before the door. Ron had found the Quidditch book whilst meandering Diagon; it had every nationally recognized team documented from the last four hundred years, complete with statistics and bright illustrations. Atop it, secured with an untidy bow, was a whole pound of Bertie Bott’s in an elegant box. Satisfied, Ron snuck back into the darkness, eager to get to his bed.

After the interviews, the compensations, the charities that had been started up after the war, Hermione found herself with more money than she knew what to do with. Instead of spending it and living a temporary life of luxury, Hermione rented an apartment she could afford on her beginner’s Ministry salary and locked her gold away in a cell in Gringotts (after many different higher ups in the bank had assured her no dragons would be enslaved for her money’s protection) and thought nothing of it until she heard she had to do something sweet for Mogal Mac Dougal for Valentine’s day. It was an expensive gift but one she could justify because she was spending the money on someone else.

The parchment had such a distinct feeling under her fingertips. The envelope was heavy, Mogal’s name written across it’s front in an elegant scrawl. The elevator dinged, informing her they had reached ‘Level Nine, the Department of Mystery.’ Her stomach dropped and for a second, Hermione was a fifth year again. She blinked away the memory before taking a sharp turn into the offices of the department — the only room on the level she was allowed enter.

Luckily enough there was no secretary but Hermione imagined that was on purpose. If anyone wanted a meeting, the Unspeakables also somehow knew it already and came to them. The pigeon holes, all marked with an Unspeakable’s surname, were practically empty. Hardly any bright red envelopes full of words of affection and promises of a future. No flowers. Finally, Hermione carefully slid the heavy parchment into a pigeon hole marked with ‘Mac Dougal’.

Inside, the letter read:

Dear Mogal,

Happy Valentine’s Day and I hope it’s a lovely one. For your gift, I’ve organised a service with Roasted for you. Let Eliza, Margaret, and Angie know your go-to morning coffee A.S.A.P and from every morning for like six months or about 120 coffees, whichever you hit first, they’ll have it delivered to the Ministry and waiting with security for you (and obliviously just let them know your days off otherwise some random, lucky fellow will be getting all of your free coffees).

I hope it’s more palatable than the office coffee!

Of all the gifts he’d ever given, perhaps the most difficult to think of was the one Lee had decided to give Hermione Granger. He’d thought it would be easy to be someone’s Secret Cupid, but of course he’d had to get the smartest and most serious witch he knew.

Lee sighed crossing gag gifts like dildos and old Weasley’s Wizarding Wheezes of the list. Hermione would likely not appreciate them; in fact, should he send those to her, she’d probably find him and hex his balls off.

So Lee found himself searching through Flourish and Blotts for a good hour, trying to find a book that was both something he could see himself giving, and one that wouldn’t go straight into Crookshanks’ litter box. After an hour of fruitless searching, he gave up on that, apparating out of Diagon Alley and to his flat.

He was sprawled on his bed, trying to think of what he could give Hermione. He glanced at his shelf and had a burst of inspiration.

Thirty minutes later, he’d wrapped her parcel up and was almost done writing the note.

Hermione,

Took me a long time to think of what to get you, you being such a lovely, intelligent witch and one far too mature for any of my usual presents.

Still, I’m hoping you like my gift. You might need to go back to your parents’ house to use it, but in case they don’t have an authentic record player, the album might make great decoration. I thought it fitting considering how many Rumours are flying about, though Fleetwood Mac will always be a classic.

Discovering that she was Terry’s secret cupid had made Padma very, very happy. While they’d both been Ravenclaws and South Asian, she and Terry weren’t the sort to talk to each other very often. Instead, they enjoyed a quiet, friendly bond; she’d been so glad to see Terry around the few times it had happened after the war.

They had, it seemed, gone into the same occupation, though Padma rarely saw Terry around at the monthly Potioneers meetings. When she’d checked the list, she’d discovered that he’d been on the waitlist for a while. Padma resolved to do something about it that Valentine’s week, vouching loudly for her friend’s skill, resourcefulness, and sheer enthusiasm. None of these were lies, and when the higher-ups heard about it, they quickly granted Padma’s request.

Padma wanted to do more than that for Terry, however, and she decided to send some of her precious ingredients over. She’d wanted someone to give them to for a while now, and she knew the place where Terry worked often had orders for Polyjuice potion.

In an envelope, Padma enclosed some fluxweed picked at the full moon, and a handful lacewing flies she’d left stewing for three weeks in a small glass container. Along with this, she sent the letter of his acceptance to the Extraordinary Society of Potioneers, stamped with the official seal.

Mr. Boot,
