Lengthy conversation on who would hypothetically be the top/bottom and it just gets hornier lol

“People believe certain things about us, you know,” Rhett says out of the blue in the office one day, spinning around in his chair to look at Link’s back.

The other man doesn’t move from his standing position at his desk, fingers typing away at the laptop keys. “Hm?”

“They have some ideas about what positions we’d be in during certain situations,” Rhett says, crossing his arms.

Link turns around to look at him, brows furrowed, “What kinds of situations?”

“Risque ones in particular,” he responds with a grin. 

“Ah,” Link says, taking a moment to decide if he wants to engage. It’s three o’ clock on a Friday, so he bites. “What do they say?”

“The general consensus seems to be that I’d top,” Rhett states, tilting his head.

Immediately, Link rolls his eyes, “It’s just because you’re taller that they say that. And maybe because I suspend my intelligence on the show.”

“How do you think it would work, then, hypothetically?” Rhett asks innocently.

Link sighs, leaning back against his desk, “Hypothetically? Well, you’re the one who already said something about it in that one more. Either one of us could be the top or bottom when hiking.”

Rhett laughs, “I guess I did. Hypothetically, though, don’t you think there’d be a default?”

“I’d be the top, Rhett. Hypothetically,” Link says with some finality. 

“Oh, give me a break. I’m always taking care of you with knives and stuff.”

“Everyone knows that’s just a bit for the show, man, I can handle a knife,” Link snaps.

Rhett leans back, taking advantage of feeling like he has the upper hand, “You are kind of bratty, though, and that’s not just for the show.”

Link scoffs, “I’m usually in control, Rhett. Sure, you fight me on stuff, but as a general rule, you defer to me.”

“That can be true and I could still be the top, hypothetically,” Rhett points out, “You’re a lot smaller than me. A whole lot more flexible.” 

With a grin, Link says, “Well, that’s true. Hypothetically, it’d make more physical sense.” 

“I think you could almost fold in half pretty easy,” Rhett says, voice dipping a little deeper than it was before. 

The smile doesn’t leave Link’s face, “Probably. You’re the one always saying you wanna be cuddled, though. I think that could mean, hypothetically, that you wouldn’t mind getting railed too.”

“I guess so. Hypothetically. But you’re always talking about your tight ass,” Rhett counters.

Link points at him and opens his mouth to respond, but settles on, “Fair.” 

“Nothing’s gonna change the fact that I’m just physically bigger.”

Unable to help himself, Link rolls his eyes again, “Come on, man, we settled this a long time ago. I have a bigger dick. I’m going back, hypothetically, I’d top.” 

Rhett chuckles, “A lot could have changed since we last measured that.” 

“Unless you had something done, I’m pretty confident that I’m still winning there, if nothing else,” Link smirks. 

“Alright, hypothetically, say you’re still bigger-”

“That part isn’t hypothetical.”

“-maybe I would bottom.” 

“But... if you’re still as thick as I remember, then it might make more sense if I hypothetically bottomed,” Link says, still grinning, but this time a blush colors his cheeks. 

“How much do you remember, Link?” Rhett asks lowly.

“I remember enough,” he responds, staring Rhett down and daring him to break eye contact. 

“Do you need a reminder?” 

“Hm,” Link muses, “Maybe we should figure this hypothetical situation out non-hypothetically?”

“Now that I can get on board with.”

I wanna believe in switch rhink so bad but rhett's the bottomiest bottom and that's all I see him as

I only ever hear people talk about it the other way around???!!!!! I love the idea of switch rhink. The main thing that makes me think that is Link has some extreme bottom tendencies and some extreme top tendencies. Rhett is a know it all and a big guy. I think often when it’s just Rhett and Link, like we usually see, Rhett can be seen as the one more “in control” (for lack of a better word) but I’m leaning towards believing Link is usually “in control.” We see his controlling tendencies occasionally, less so on the show because I think everything is already under his control in that situation and he can “suspend his intelligence” and all. I have bottom Rhett on the brain because he was so baby today, especially in the more. The strongest case for top Rhett I can think of at this time is that I can see Link begging to be manhandled and topped and Rhett would do it for him. But y’all all know I’m a huge proponent for top Link. 

Idk, I agree with bottom Rhett, anon, but a lot of people have strong feelings about bottom Link too. I see it both ways. I’ve written it both ways.

Today I presented this to @mycuppuffedhedraws and decided to share it with the rest of you because I feel strongly about it.

My case for Switch!Rhink:

First and foremost, they are best friends and business partners. They have lived their whole lives as equals, so if they were to engage in a kink relationship, they would need balance there, neither one of them ever being fully in control of the other unless they're in a scene. They have tight schedules and busy lives, so all of their scenes would be agreed upon beforehand and planned out. They would agree on who is dom for that night so both could be prepared and ready for that head space, especially because of the nature of competition on the show, they don't know who might have won a game or something that afternoon before a scene and that doesn't need to influence their time together.

Rhett McLaughlin is a big man. He can command a room and a conversation and he often takes care of Link and watches out for him. He would be a good dom and he knows Link like no one else. He's a counter to Link's eagerness and bratty nature. He can easily control him because of his size and let's be honest, he's the most likely person for Link to listen to at all. But Rhett has mentioned before how he's always been trying to shrink and be small and not take up space. He talked about how he'd love to be cuddled buy a huge guy. He trusts Link with everything and could easily give up control to him. Link has a big presence and he would find great ways to make Rhett feel small. Thus, Rhett would make a good dom and sub for Link.

Link Neal is baby and bratty and mischievous and he's thin and small compared to Rhett, easily manhandled. It's difficult for him to give up control, but if anyone can get it from him, it's Rhett. He wants to be told to shut up, he loves to be edged. He wants to be hit and tied up and for everything to be out of his hands for once. He trusts Rhett no matter what and he'd be a perfect sub for him sometimes and an insufferable one other times. But Link also loves control. He would know Rhett's body even better than his own, touching him in exactly the right places to get him riled up or to keep him from coming. He would have every aspect of a scene prepared to the last detail. He would feel anxious because kink can be intense, but the moment he's in dom head space, all the anxieties melt away and he knows what he's doing, knows exactly how to make Rhett feel amazing and keep him in line, though Rhett is rarely bratty. This is an area where he knows he can excel. He has full control over every aspect of it, and though it very rarely comes into play in his daily life, he loves when Rhett surrenders control to him.

They are great at making each other feel good and giving each other exactly what they need no matter who is dom or who is sub. It subtracts the push and pull of their every day relationship and lets them be there for each other. But the key is, it has to be a switch dynamic. Sometimes Link needs control and Rhett needs to feel small. Sometimes Link needs to surrender and Rhett needs that authority. It's a measured push and pull.

(i see why a lot of people make Rhett dom because on the show he's more competitive and all that, but the way they talk about their professional relationship makes me think Link is more dominant than we think.)
