Creating a comics side blog just means its time for me to post my too self indulgent doodles that i refuse to taint my art blog with so here are some doodle i'll probably never finish
I just saw a preview with text for GotG #15. I guess I was wrong. Rich did punch Magneto because he was a villain but seeing his train of thought and him having to make nice with two people who have done horrible things plus Doom I guess it makes sense. Also Peter mentions wanting to see Kitty but calls her an old friend. I wouldn't mind them interacting the way they are now. At least Humphries and Bendis are gone.
I just saw that too. He seems surprised to find him there at all, and Erik hasn't been keeping what I'd consider a low profile, so I'd guess Rich also isn't overly familiar with any of Magneto's recent history. The last time I can remember that he was spending time on Earth where Magneto may have been in the news was around Civil War, when John Sublime was impersonating Erik and trashing New York. If you exclude that, he hasn't really been in a villainous role since he was ruling Genosha. Otherwise he's primarily been written as a protector, and more often than not against the more cosmic scale threats to Earth.
And Rich seems to envision actually arresting him, for some reason or another. Before I'd just assumed their conflict was going to be over some kind of Mars-adjacent diplomatic catastrophe, but we're apparently dealing with an earlier timeframe in Guardians. My second guess was going to be that information about the Snarkwar leaked, but he seems not to know that Erik works with SWORD at all, and the end of the Snarkwar and SWORD's involvement with that seems to be public knowledge already anyway. Those are the only galactic issues I can think of, and Erik isn't a wanted man anywhere on Earth. So I suppose Rich really just doesn't know anything about him, other than he's just run into another supervillain at the worst time and doesnt like it.
I was actually just thinking about a Star-Lord and Shadowcat meeting after reading Planet-Sized, after I realized all of the other X-Men had gone up to space and just ditched Kitty at the empty gala, and that everyone else that Peter knows will likely already be gone by the time SWORD is meant to take place.
I don't think I've ever liked an issue they've appeared in together, so it's not something I'd normally be for. But they've had some similar experiences lately. They've both died, had the nature of their existence get called into question by weird sci-fi antics, both are currently living in a sort of exile with a found family, both facing rejection from loved ones over circumstances they had no control over.
Although now I just think it would be cool if Peter would decide to put Rich's mind at ease, and ask his mutant friend what's going on with all of these giant planet shaking moves her friends are involved with, and just get told that she has no idea because it's all a giant secret, everyone in leadership is always plotting against everyone else, and she's not allowed on the island when they're planning out the important stuff.
Known for his long-term world building and big payoffs, mastermind writer Al Ewing has completely revolutionized Marvel’s space-based sagas, introducing exciting new developments such as Emperor Hulkling, the Kree/Skrull Empyre, the return of S.W.O.R.D., and a wild new lineup for the Guardians of the Galaxy. And since last year’s epic EMPYRE, Ewing has laid the groundwork for an explosive conflict that’s set to erupt this July in THE LAST ANNIHILATION, a new storyline that will impact some of your favorite cosmic titles and more. THE LAST ANNIHILATION will unfold throughout the summer starting in July with GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #16 and S.W.O.R.D. #7.
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #16 will see the entire galaxy under attack, the likes of which haven’t been seen since Annihilus first waged war. Someone out there has awakened with a new vision for the universe and they have the army to make it a reality. When five different planets fall under siege, will it be too much even for the new Guardians of the Galaxy to handle?
S.W.O.R.D. #7 will take place immediately following the Hellfire Gala. The party is over...but not all the guests have gone home. Victor Von Doom is staying for dinner. Be there as he catches up with an old friend… just as THE LAST ANNIHILATION hits!
"GUARDIANS and S.W.O.R.D. have been building their own unique gravity for a while now, and in space, when two objects have gravity, there's a pretty good chance they'll crash into each other - or get sucked into the orbit of something even bigger,” Ewing says. “Marvel Space these days is a fragile coalition of worlds that chose peace over war, a little bubble of hope in a cruel void - but there's an enemy nobody ever suspected readying an attack that'll either cement all those frail alliances or tear them to pieces."
This summer...the war to end all wars begins. And not everyone’s going to come home. Find out who the mysterious foe behind THE LAST ANNIHILATION is on June 23 in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #15. And be there on July 21 when it kicks off in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #16!
