Evangeline was nervous. And excited. Excited-nervous. Nervous-excited.
At least, she thought so? Maybe she was only one. Or the other. Emotions were difficult because she was still getting used to them in this body of hers that sweat and had a racing heartbeat and shallow breath.
She was excited for Michael to come over, because this was the first time he was seeing her house! And it was fun to have friends over. But, she was nervous that he wouldn’t pass Ashleigh’s test. She had faith, of course! But who knew! Not Evangeline.
“Hi!” she said as she opened the door, an arm full of cat. Figaro had been clingy since it had gotten cold. “Come in! I have snacks in the living room already. I thought we could watch a movie? That’s fun right?”

Evangeline’s friend Michael had invited her out again! How wonderful. She was very lucky to have friends. It had been very lonely after Mr. Davies had died. It had been difficult to know how to make friends, but now that Ashleigh Q. had showed her Tinder and Twitter and Instagram, she was having a great time talking to everyone and anyone who crossed her path.
And she really liked talking to Michael. He was very funny and interesting and he liked a lot of fun and interesting things. Things that she had never heard of. Or been able to do. Like kick a football! She’d never done that before, but had been delighted to do.
“Hello!” Evy chirped, coming upon Michael in the park where he was waiting for her. She skipped forward and threw her arms around his neck in a big hug, the same kind she’d give her girlfriends.
“I’ve been practicing!” she told him proudly when she pulled away. “You’re gonna be surprised how good I am now!”
