Curiosity Killed The Cat || Fabian & Septima
Fabian knew he was being nosy, that honestly it was none of his business, but he couldn't resist an entirely unnecessary trip to Gringotts in the hope of overhearing some tidbit of information about the break in. He could almost hear his mother's voice scolding him like she had when he was a kid who had got himself into trouble on some insane quest for answers 'Curiosity killed the cat', he had to stop himself from mumbling the rejoinder aloud 'but satisfaction brought it back'. A smile tugged at the corner of his mouth at the memory, a shadow of the cheeky grin that had split his face when he had chanted the rejoinder as a hyperactive eight year old.
He automatically scanned the lobby of the bank as he entered, assessing possible threats and checking for anything out of place. It was a habit ingrained by years of work as a Hit Wizard and something he took care to cultivate, they were at war after all and you could never be too careful. His eyes settled on a lone female figure who had been talking to a group of goblins. She looked familiar and it niggled at his mind, her name at the tip of his tongue but eluding him somehow.
Vector. That was it. Septima Vector. So, this was the woman who had won over his family and friends. He'd never really talked to her before but he'd heard of her, he'd definitely heard of her. From Molly and Arthur of course, she was friends with them but he'd never run into her at the Burrow somehow. And from Rab. Merlin, he still wasn't sure what to make of that. Still, there had to be something special to have entranced so many of the people he cared about and this was the perfect opportunity to see what.
Now, how to introduce himself and strike up a conversation without looking like a complete prat? He ran a hand through his hair as he pondered his dilemma, sending the already wild curls into a state of complete disarray. Fuck it. He'd just go up and say hi and if she ignored him then he'd keep on walking to one of the cashiers and just feel like a fool. He steeled himself momentarily before striding confidently towards her, a smile set on his face.
"Hi. Um. You're Septima Vector, right? I'm Fabian Prewett. Molly's brother. And Rab's friend. And -" Oh crap. He was babbling again. Why did this always happen when he was nervous. "Um. I just thought I'd say hi and introduce myself, I've heard a lot about you." Oh fuck. She was going to think he was a complete idiot. Too late now. God he was bad at first impressions but at least he was sober and not hungover or anything. Though that meant he had nothing to blame his foolishness on. Fuck. He tugged nervously at the curls at the back of his neck and glanced down at his feet. What the fuck? He wasn't normally shy or nervous but in his desire to make a good first impression he had obviously done the opposite.
