Don't Go
"Keep running, no need to stop dearest Dormouse!" called a young man with messy hair and holding a hand to his Hat as he dashed along with a petite somewhat mousy girl, their eyes flickering back every now and then to the danger behind them. "They're closing in on us, Hatter!" she squeaked worriedly, causing a frown to appear on the man's face. "You run ahead then.. I'll try and find a way to stop them. Even if only for a little while." he finally spoke, making the girl shake her head.
"Oh no, Hatter! I could not! I won't leave you behind!" she stated before gasping. "Look out!"
The Hatter found himself to the ground, and when he looked up he noticed Dormouse, gasping quietly for breath with an arrow in her chest. It made his eyes widen in shock. That was not a sight he wanted to be greeted with...
"Dormouse..." the male finally whispered, moving forward and catching her before she fell to the ground, turning on his heel and dashing further. His worry had made place for fear as he saw the colour draining from the girl's face. "I-I'm sorry, Hatter... I-I tried to avoid quickly..." she gasped out, making his eyebrow twitch lightly. "Foolish little mouse... That arrow was meant for me...! You could have easily avoided it by running on!" he countered somewhat angrily, though the anger wasn't to her, it was to the one who had done it to her.
His face softened as he glanced down at her once more, being replaced by worry. "Silly Sylvan... The red stuff is supposed to stay inside of your body..." he murmured, finalyl dashing in the nearest safe spot he could find with her and both staying still for a while. Only when he was certain they had passed by, he breathed out in relief and checked the damage done.
"I-I'm cold, Hatter..." she murmured, making the man scowl once in worry. That was a bad place. No, the worst place to receive an arrow at... A dangerous place... "M'sleepy..." she sighed, eyes drooping. "Don't you dare fall asleep now, Sylvan! Stay awake, please!" he pleaded, glancing up quickly. Though he realized it was invain... The wound was too fatal... He couldn't stop the bleeding. She would die no matter what he would do.
"Sylvan... Oh Sylvan.." he uttered, shoulders sagging. She had been one of his first friends in this crazy place... And now...
"I'm sorry Sylvan.. I'm so sorry... I can't.." he stammered, glancing down at the girl who started to to tremble like a little mouse. "H-Hatter... Am I d-dying...?" she squeaked, eyes wide. "Yes.." he replied softly, holding her closer to him. "Yes... You are..." he repeated, frowning. "O-oh.. W... Will.. Y.. You s-stay...?"
"Oh absolutely, dearest Sylvan.. My dearest Dormouse.. Absolutely.." he replied softly, kissing her head. Tears formed in her eyes, before she sniffed once. "W...Will you sing..?" she murmured, making the Hatter swallow and nod once. "Which song..?" he mumbled, casting her one glance before smiling faintly when she murmured the song ' twinkle, twinkle little bat'.
And he sang for her, he held her and stroked her hair. And once she breathed nomore, his shell finally cracked and he wept for the Dormouse.
Sweet Sylvan, who had saved his life in more then one way...
