Symbiosis O
Title: SymbiosisO
Artists: Kart Ojavee and Eszter Ozsvald
Location: SymbiosisO.com
SymbiosisO is “a collection of textile interfaces that react to human touch”. SymbiosisO is an artwork grounded on handcraft and digital techniques. The piece is comprised of felt, polygon-shaped cushions that react to and change colors based on the warmth of human touch. The electronics are embedded in the soft material in order to interact with the human touch to activate “the heat sensitive coating layer”. The artists used felt as a substrate material due to its properties; and they used a Voronoi tessellation algorithm to help generate the geometry of the textile interfaces. A voronoi diagram “is a special kind of decomposition of a given space, a metric space”. The “form, function, and aesthetics are designed [to mimic] a biological element, a multi-layered structure of a living organism”. SymbiosisO is a great piece that demonstrates that art no longer has to be viewed by the individual; but the individual can become a participant in the artwork and interact directly with it. The participants interact directly with the piece by touch and are able to become co-creators by creating different patterns on the textile interfaces. This collection takes a mood-ring to an entirely new dimension.
