The Estate feels the safest but perhaps it’s the grandest target for the Initiative. Still, Charlie finds herself spending more time at the Selvaggio home than her own, terrified she’ll return to find an agent waiting for her, like a monster under her bed. It could merely be the idea of safety in numbers, that so many of her own rush in and out of the building like it’s equipped with a revolving door and there’s something comforting in that, something normal. Something like family. And that’s what she has to fight for now. That’s the reason she sits outside at the patio table alone, unloading and reloading the handgun until it starts to feel like second nature, like the weapon is a part of her toxic skin, which still feels cold even in the California heat.
