Synergy 2015 - What’s Up With That?
What’s going on party people?
So this post is a bit of an update with where we are post Synergy. Why your CDs haven’t shipped yet, and why we do some things the way we do, based upon feedback from our survey. Have you taken our survey yet? If not, please take a few and give us some feedback, it really helps to make sure we’re putting together the best possible experience for you. You can take the survey here: https://surveyplanet.com/55628c64205245c11d91adae Ok, so what’s going on with the CDs, shirts and other stuff people have ordered? Simply put, they haven’t been sent to us from Chicago yet. We asked some people to ship them to us because when we’re at ACen we’re not given a very wide window in which to operate after the show. So there has been a delay as a result of that. Rest assured, you will receive your product along with an extra bonus for your patience. We’ll also have a new items added to our shop soon, including posters featuring the artwork of Hiroyuki Takahashi that was used for the cover of Frequency Blitz 3/Synergy 2015 EP. Now, this is probably the most common bit of feedback I’ve seen from our survey. Why don’t we carry CDs by the artists that we bring out? This is not a simple cut and dry answer of ‘We don’t want to.’ Believe me I want to promote the hell out of the artists and their music as much as possible. But there are some complications there. One of the biggest problems mydjsobad had when it was in operation was how much excess stock was left over after all is said and done. A lot of albums go unsold, which means lost revenue. That’s just one of the many factors that has lead to our leaner operating procedure. It’s also why we try to contract a song from the artists that are coming out and put them on albums like Frequency Blitz, or have them create our anthem for the year (Thanks DJ Genki, Yukacco, and Pa’s Lam System). Unfortunately a single song isn’t cheap, especially when a lot of these artists are already producing tracks for up six or seven albums every three months for M3, and Comiket, or in the case of Taku Takahashi, we straight up cannot afford to commission a track from him. We also encourage the artists who are coming out to bring their own merchandise but here’s the other tricky bit. They only produce as much as they think they are going to sell at a Comiket or M3 event. As a result, a lot of CDs are sold out and we simply cannot acquire them to sell, or the artists don’t want the extra cost associated with shipping CDs to us. We did have a short selection of Massive New Krew CDs that were on sale at the booth for a short period and they went fast. We know how much people out there want the music our guests produce when they visit our booth, and we try to encourage them to bring product. The only other wrinkle here is licensing. If any artist is a member of another label that has licensed their music out for other use, ie. kors k and Konami, then we cannot sell any CDs that have licensed content. This is why our selection from S2TB only includes Hardcore United Tokyo, The Synthesis Collective, and S2TB Gathering 2014 EP.
This ultimately is what has lead to us going so heavy on the digital route. A lot of these albums are long out of print/stock. That said, we will continue to encourage artists to bring some extras with them and hopefully in the future we can reach a place where we can offer a bit more on the physical side from artists who are coming to visit for future Synergy shows. Hopefully this answers a few questions out there for you guys. If you have any other questions please feel free to email us at [email protected] or hit us up on our facebook page at http://facebook.com/attackthemusic Thanks everyone!
