Martin blackwood?

a lot of really common english names like martin, jon, michael, henry, etc. are primary colors (in various shades) for me, some of them being all one color and some broken up like panels or patchwork by syllable. mar- is a muted blue, not as dark as navy blue but. getting there. and -tin is a muted cardinal red. lol.. like ivy league or prep school colors. it has a pretty firm dividing line. meanwhile blackwood i associate with the visual/texture of a dark and smoothed-over cobblestone path with some (equally smoothed over or worn) iron like on a manhole cover or storm drain grate (or, in the case of the image i was able to find that best illustrates this, railroad/tram car tracks). my mother’s maiden name is blackwell and i also associate blackwell with worn cobblestone + iron and the cool rock+metal texture but blackwell is rainy.

alexander j. newall’s martin voice is another one that inches very close to being a green voice, similar to luke booys’, just slightly duller or muted than luke’s michael-voice.

for me personally, this looks a little ugly all put together but i’ll be honest, i rarely ever think about that when i’m literally just lost in the podcast as an audio experience lmao. the thing that i see/feel/taste etc. in my mind is the voices and the diegetic sound, which. if you can imagine those glowy light streaks/blobs from hlvrai, it’s like i’m seeing that in a pitch black room and it bobs up and down with the movement of that person’s voice. added together with other sounds and it’s like a light show. i wish i were good at animating because then i might be able to accurately present what it’s like for me to listen to a song lol... but then it wouldn’t give anyone the full taste/touch/smell experience (those associations also happen in the weird mental black space lol). but yeah. that’s martin blackwood. (the jokey martin kartin blackwood name has pink and red in it because of kartin but jfklsf again they’re very basic colors. just think of a bright pink-to-red gradient for it ig)

Hello! May I ask for multiple? If so, thoughts on Dan, Clara, and Suit/Caroline from Archive 81? If not multiple, then, one of them?

of course! i did dan’s here (link) so i will do suit/caroline’s and clara’s :)

the name clara by itself is like a cranberry red. and i love clara’s voice actor for her (idk how else to say it) lip noises (?? !!! idk!) because they remind me of sleep. like falling asleep to the scent of a flowery aromatherapy candle. and her real name, jennifer martine, i associate with a butterfly wing. has to be purple (i edited a blue butterfly wing for this one since purple butterfly wing closeups are understandably hard to find in a surface level image search) - it’s like handling a butterfly wing, all the little powdery scales. idk if it honestly has anything to do with her voice, either, because i only get this association with the name jennifer martine.

suit/caroline is similarly very satisfying. had to ask the a81 discord whether caroline’s surname is canonically levi or lesta or lester and apparently it’s contested jfklsd which i didn’t realize. so i did her full name for all 3 last names. caroline is always light/baby blue, only slightly influenced by the first syllable of the name proceeding it. levi is a blue/purple. lesta is like those ocean pictures that used to be on macintosh systems as pre-loaded desktop wallpapers, like those Perfect fiji underwater pictures. or like this picture of a weird drink i see on those ‘mildly interesting’ pages (link) lmao. lester is canary yellow. and the simple name “suit” is what i think would be called ‘periwinkle’, like a super light but saturated purple-blue color.

her voice, meanwhile, is very special to me it’s another that i associate with a glowing orb of light, but hers is cold like holding a ball of loosely connected wet/fluffy snow. in general she’s got lots of cool tones. and you know when you leave an item of clothing in the cold, or sitting in the cold? and you wear it and it’s still very cold but now it’s on your body? i associate caroline with a specific white cotton sweater i used to own and the sensation of putting it on while it’s cold. heavy and comforting but not in a warm way, in a cool soothing way. the screams on the other hand make me weep lmao. i mute them honestly because it’s the textural and sound equivalent of squeaking styrofoam which physically hurts my brAIN i have a feeling it’s the hyperempathy. i don’t like hearing her in pain 😭 it makes me flick my toes.

michael ... my man michael “mike” crew ...

mike and michael, for him, are admittedly kinda. plain. i have an uncle named mike who i think (literally) colored the name mike for me, permanently and made all mikes grey. or, if it does have a color, is always in the blue family. michael shelley is only blue because it’s ‘absorbed’ by shelley for example, if that makes sense? like when i think of michael (as in michael shelley) my brain sees michael + shelley and it’s just sort of always michael + shelley even when it’s just plain “michael” because i know which michael is being referred to.

mike crew’s (first) name is grey and textured like the kind of stainless steel that’s on hospital lever-handles. idk how else to describe it since that’s the only context in which i’ve felt metal of that precise texture before but it’s like that slippery/friction-less soft metal. makes my feet and neck feel kinda limp, ngl. his last name, crew (this is true for the last name crewe as well) is green and velvet. kind of makes my palms feel weird lmao. idk how many people can actually go and do this right now but if your hands are dry and you touch (non synthetic) velvet it’s like it makes my palms and elbows tingly :/

his voice is nice :) pretty and yellow. i needed to relisten to 7-ish minutes mag 91 for this because the associations i have with his name are admittedly a lot stronger than the ones i have with his voice. i see his name written more than i hear his voice. and not only did he only have one episode where he spoke but the tma.. music/noise that plays when something scary or intense is being said/read is eggplant purple so it kind of bleeds into peoples’ voices at times and can overpower them, which tbh.. is a little rude jfkldsf.. his voice is yellow though.

screams jfklsd thinking about dan’s voice is why i made the post prompting people to submit character names, stop reading my mind..!!

it’s hard to separate real-dan from character-dan tbh because obviously they’re two different people/concepts. but dan powell’s voice, regardless of whether he’s in or out of character, is literally the color and flavor of banana-orange juice. like the Simply Orange™ variety. oranges and yellows are a very common color association for me to make with peoples’ voices but taste/flavor associations are very rare for me so.. dan really sticks out lmao. his name itself is similarly pretty special in the sense that i associate it with not only a pattern but a texture? which is that specific red flannel alex hirsch is always wearing (you know?), like the pattern, color, and texture of a red and black lumberjack-style wool flannel shirt.

do you know how difficult it was to fight the impulse to purchase Simply Orange™ banana-orange juice every time i listened to a81? when i was trying to get through seasons 1-3?? do you?!
