taika waititi also has a very bad track record of rehabilitating actors who have been called out for doing/saying antiblack shit. like natasia demetriou being anti- black lives matter, kayvan novak and mark proksch having done blackface for roles, lil mike and funny bone having a more or less unnecessary role in in reservation dogs. makes me uncomfortable as a native with black family members. not to mention the fact that he outed himself as a zionist anyway... we definitely do not need another road to el dorado, especially not by taika waititi.
Yeah, like Taika is not it... he kinda just Keeps coming out with more racist, specifically antiblack stuff & just being cool with it. I also heard that one of his other, newer Māori films was transphobic to Fa'afafine people.

ok i actually have more than one if you count the statement-givers of the fan statements i’m writing but i’ll go ahead and talk about my fear avatar oc: ganymede lewis (legally cameron miller-lewis—they’ll go by either but ganymede is the chosen name they’ve introduced themself as to others since they were 17) is a midwestern american avatar of the vast. full disclosure i will, of course, be projecting a lot onto them.. as is my right (continued under the cut because i’m not about to put all this shit on everyone’s dash):
they were born and raised in western iowa, where they were a really involved farm kid who participated in things like 4h and ffa. however, after learning a lot more about themself (re: gender in particular), they withdrew from community involvement. this didn’t ‘bother’ them a whole lot (though to say it didn’t bother them at all would be inaccurate and plain wrong. but i want to sort of abridge things for you here lmao) as they were off to college in just a couple short years. during their sophomore year, in january of 2008 (age 19), they returned home from university to their old rural country life after spending a straight year and a half in a somewhat large metropolitan area and felt compelled to take a hike out into one of the fields surrounding their family home, where they had an encounter with the vast—i will hopefully be writing way more about this encounter in the form of a statement from ganymede describing it but, for now, all you need to know is that was the point at which they became an avatar of the vast (or at least began the becoming-an-avatar process).
they love birds of prey. i won’t namedrop a certain midwestern raptor center that rehabilitates birds of prey but that’s where they work (i’ll rename it for the purpose of their story/statement anyway). they are constantly listening to music and/or have headphones on without any music playing because muffling outside noise is sort of their comfortable-normal. since moving to a city for university, the sounds are just so, so much. it would probably be A Lot for any country-dweller to handle but ganymede’s autistic and crowds are sensory hell for them. when they first moved away from home, their internal clock got fucked up due to their aversion to crowds/people and noise. the first job they decide to get is working a graveyard shift/night job. they take classes later in the day to make their new schedule work for them & they get to work all by themself on the overnight shift at a local bagel shop—which they fucking love. they still prefer early mornings and would consider themself a morning person (just not in the city!) but it takes a couple days of re-adjusting their sleep schedule to wake up really early in the morning to watch the sun rise again like they used to.
the night job works for them for a while, even after their encounter with the vast. it takes them a while to realize that people react to them.. strangely.. at times because they had very little human interaction in their life at that point. their life kind of goes to shit for a while until they take a break from university, get a job with the raptor center rehabilitating birds of prey, start going back to classes part-time, graduating, and getting their life relatively ‘set straight’.
some of the finer details which happen after that are subject to change so i won’t go too much into it. but yeah that’s ganymede, my nonbinary avatar of the vast :’)
