<3 I think I more or less knew from the outset that Tumblr wouldn’t really care about these, which is why I tried to make them as much as possible for me (and anyone else who likes’em). Heheh. So yeah, I’m pretty happy with them. If nothing else, for getting them done when they were so much work on each individual part.

These look amazing. This series was one of the first I read when I found the fandom - I came very late to the party. Honestly, reading it gave me the motivation to write my own Shepard's story. The fics are brilliant, and this art is beautiful.

Ugh, that sucks. I hate it when something breaks and it's unfixable or un-returnable, it's just one of the worst feelings. It makes me feel like a small child again with a broken toy. I want to cry, but being an adult it's more like an extended groan. I bought a brand new $50 bike light the other day and guess what snapped off when I hit a pothole on its maiden voyage?

Maaaaaan that sucks. I always have the same paranoia when I get a semi-expensive toy, like I paid X amount for something totally frivolous and watch me break something... Arguably, we got several years of hard use out of the TV, so it’s not SO bad, but it still feels like a lousy way to go. And then what the heck do I do with a faulty but functional 50′ screen? Bleah.

*warmcomf* Any consolation, the prices have gone down a lot since you went and bought that one. Can get a new one for same price that's way better, or one same that's way cheaper.

Hopefully so. Especially since I have no need for 4K, the gimmick-du-jour that there’s no content for. But it’s still a lot of money to suddenly have to spend.

Doh. I’ve had days like that. Some games are brutal if you put them down for a while, all your instincts get screwed up. Nothing like logging in, accidentally throwing a grenade and killing yourself.

The home stretch! What is it about fix-it fic... it’s like crack. No urge to adulterate good characters, but as soon as there’s flawed writing, the caulking gun and duct tape come out.

Yeah, and all the harder because it seems so inevitable? How many people actually manage to dodge that bullet? But then I think a lot of it has to do with being able to define yourself at least in part in terms outside of your kids. To maintain something of your own identity. So when they become independent humans, you’re not so lacking a foundational self that what they do reflects a hundred percent back. I’m so sick of feeling like I need to apologize for the fact that I’m not a clone of my mom and can’t read minds.

It really is amazing that some people can’t look at themselves and go, “I hated this when my parents did it to me.” Now that I have a kid, I’m really scared I’ll become that person, too.

It seems like it’s so hard to avoid! Even for people I consider intelligent and self-reflective. I guess the best any of us can do is try, right? Be open to listening and changing no matter how old you get. That seems to be the hardest part.

*hugs* either way, I REALLY admire you for making the attempt! My secret dream is to go all-out 501st one day (although with the franchise taking a new direction we’ll see if that lasts). I’m rooting for you!

On the one hand I love what the 501st does, on the other I’m super hesitant to go anywhere near a club where the barrier to entry is literally testing to see if you measure up to screen-accuracy. It seems like opening the door to a whole host of judgmental crap, and even fake geek girl bullshit. Star Wars fandom has more than its fair share of hyper-picky purists who are willing to piss all over someone they disapprove of.

But hey, they do put out a lot of how-to resources, so at least I can follow those and see how I do. :)

Doesn’t at least someone in the army of various Sin aspects have the attitude that what you’ve got is what you’ve got and work with it? (Who can come out to play once you put the suit on?)

Heheh, interesting way of putting it. And... not really? It’s always something I’ve been good at believing for everyone except myself. But that’s something I should fix, isn’t it? I feel like it’s the next horizon of self-development. It’s actually why I made the post in the first place. Doing an armor build will sort of force me to confront and process all the negative emotions.

Yeah. Wouldn’t it be great? Threezero is doing DudeShep and Legion, so far. Who else will we see? A lot depends on what license they got - general ME or a specific game. I think Bakara is a no-go, but I’m holding out some hope we’ll see a Wrex, because he would be huge and amazing.

Expensive? In all seriousness, I don’t buy into that politics of exclusion ‘real geek’ BS. You do you. What I am, if anything, is a good argument that getting older can actually be a wonderful thing, not this spectre of a slow death. Much as I still struggle with identity on some days, I also have days like today, where I love every part of being where I am and making my own choices about how I spend my money, time and engagement. Some people, even ones who identify as ‘real geek’, would look at what I do and still think I was nuts.

Eh, I still use my ancient ratty old FF7 hint book since it takes forever to find a concise W/T for that game in the myriad of ones out there, but for newer games, I do sometimes wonder.

See, old games I can understand, they don’t necessarily have the best online communities. But RPGs almost always have their own circle of tireless obsessives (bless them) who love to record the minutiae and then argue about it. Warframe isn’t even an RPG per se, and yet I tend to still learn new tactics by skimming the arguments on the Wiki about particular weapons or builds. The trouble with books is they don’t have any of the more dynamic content. Obviously that’s a good thing in some ways... but back in the day, FF7 didn’t have DLC or patches or suchlike. These days, not so much.

Heheh. Free, I have less objection to. But inevitably, I find the internet sources way more up to date than the books, to say nothing of being searchable and having solutions to bugs and so forth.
