Syreeta was born Syreeta Wright in Pittsburgh and began recording for Motown in 1968, first doing demo vocals. She met Stevie Wonder at Motown in 1968. They were married in 1970 and divorced in 1972. They co-wrote The Spinners' only Motown hit, It's a Shame, and Stevie's Signed Sealed Delivered I'm Yours. Stevie produced her first two Motown albums, in 1972 and 74. She released nine albums, all on Motown, through 1983. Her only other time in the hot 100 was the follow up with Billy that missed the top 40 in 1980.
