a long overdue apology
This draft was started on June 7th and was completed in the two days after my final exam. It was not started or finished in response to anything on Tumblr.
This post is a retraction of my previous promotion of false abuse accusations against @daydreamers-choir. If you are not familiar with this drama, you are free to continue scrolling.
But this deserves to be on main.
I always said that I'd give a long apology if I was proven wrong.
I was proven wrong.
Before I start my account of what happened: there isn't really a way to write this without using some name for the abusive cracker who operated the aliases “Sunny”/“Dia” and “Mitsuki”/“Okimi”. And I think up to this point in the drama, it has been a real problem that people have been referring to this person by one of their aliases. It contributes to the false idea that these were real identities, that these constructs were anything but masks worn by a pathological liar. So I think it would be much more helpful to refer directly to the person underneath. I'm done dancing around.
Their name is Kylar.
We were previously extremely wary of revealing any shred of Kylar's personal information, but I'm now very confident that this name does not lead to anything useful without having other information. So I will use this name to move past the masks and name the one underneath.
“Dia” is the name they were known by for four years, and I continue to support using that name to keep the chain of accountability, but ultimately, “Dia” was only Kylar's most persistent mask.
Now then. Daydreamers.
We did a video call. They are not Kylar.
Why did I think they were?
Following the exposal of years of deception perpetrated by Kylar operating the aliases “Sunny” and “Mitsuki”, playing them off each other to abuse everyone around them, I took my leave from participating in syscourse. However, I was in communication with Sophie and SAS as they built up their case that Daydreamers was a new Kylar alt. I was uninvolved publicly at the time, but I was encouraging them in private.
We had a little internal skepticism at some points in the process, but not enough. At the time I was aware really only in theory that we didn't really have a proper mechanism of anyone neutral or lightly countermotivated, because all of the people strongly countermotivated had spent weeks covering their eyes and denying irrefutable proof (and they continued this for months until the proof was dox-level information). At the time we thought we were being thorough compared to what we could go on, because our reference point was “if you're correct, people scream that you're wrong”.
Part of the “evidence” that sent us over the edge with regard to Daydreamers was that someone sent an anon to Daydreamers accusing them of being Kylar. This was held up as a third-party independently being suspicious. I have since been informed that the person who sent this anon was in contact with Sophie and SAS, so the whole thing was circular.
Our main body of evidence was:
Daydreamers was unusually loud about no one caring about Kylar for someone uninvolved
They joined the GOP server around the time Kylar left
They deleted their previous account the same day Kylar was exposed for their alts
Their new account had a username replacing vowels with x, a Kylar signature since long before they joined syscourse
Their reaction to the drama seemed intense for someone who had just joined
They had an alter named Kitty who used pink text and she/her pronouns, just like “Mitsuki”
They claimed to have a headmate named Sophie who looks very similar to @ sophieinwonderland's pfp
Daydreamers having a very similar blog structure to “Sunny” (main, agere, 18+)
Daydreamers deleting their account again and coming back under a new identity (the only person in syscourse who had ever cycled accounts that fast was Kylar)
They're both into Degrees Of Lewdity
They did a Discord call in an attempt to prove they had a different voice, but their voice is extremely similar to Kylar's
One of their previous pfps had the same black-hair aesthetic that Kylar's been using for years
And this is what we based our accusations on. Through March and April, we only became more sure of ourselves, deep in confirmation bias.
But as time went on, some things started to not add up.
Would Kylar really be bold enough to get on call with their unmodified voice with people who had spent hours with them in VC before?
Would Kylar really be such a mastermind to stagger replies between Daydreamers and the other suspected alt Luxray by over an hour, but then be stupid enough to send an anon 9 minutes before reviving Luxray from hiatus?
Would Kylar really change their computer clock to Eastern Time just in case anyone ever checked?
Would Kylar really pour thousands of hours into a Steam profile on an alt? How could that alias have been maintained for a decade?
These questions plagued me through May, and then while going through old files, I found huge new proof that Kylar was behind both “Sunny” and “Mitsuki”, which to my surprise actually shut up the gaslighters. (It wasn't any more irrefutable than what we had previously, but whatever works.)
And it was a glorious day, but what was absolute proof for one case was absolute disproof for the other. What finally broke the dam was when we found Kylar's face, which did not match the censored selfies Daydreamers had posted.
Daydreamers was immediately contacted, and we had a good long video call to sort everything out. We've had a much better relationship since then.
Now I know:
Daydreamers was just genuinely super annoyed at what was happening in syscourse
The GOP server did have a swift effect on their opinion of Sophie, which really shouldn't've been so unbelievable
Sophie revealing there was a leak from the private Discord servers where evidence of Kylar's crimes were actively covered up was a legitimate reason for Daydreamers to try to manage their footprint
The speech-to-text ‘x’ thing was the truth; they really heard “pksnksystksm” and thought it sounded cool. So that was taken from Kylar, but not because it was Kylar.
They really were going through a rough time around the beginning of the year, their reaction to syscourse drama was just because there were a lot of other stressors that the drama was stacking on
All the rest was real and just added up to an unfortunately big coincidence.
With the regular retreading of the accusations, it is actually very understandable why they would delete their account the second time!
So, to Daydreamers:
I'm sorry for amplifying these accusations, sorry for everything you were put through publicly and privately, sorry for the gauntlet of tests I made you do, sorry for not believing you, sorry this post took me so long to finish.
The other side of this drama has been a demonstration of what happens when your standard of proof is too high, but ours clearly needs to be higher.
With this completely shattered, other accusations are being reviewed and I may or may not post updates on those depending on whether anything conclusive is found.
