When a diabetic is not using a pump they use two different types of insulin. The first type that Finn uses is called Lantus and it's long acting insulin. It works over a period of 24 hours and the goal of it is to keep his glucose in range if he doesn't eat anything. Novalog is his fast acting insulin and that's given anytime he eats or his blood glucose is high. When on a pump there is basically a slow drip of Novalog that acts as his basal (long acting) which is why if there is a block in the pump and Finn stops getting insulin DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis) will come swift and unrelenting. We will talk about DKA another day. #t1diabetesawareness #type1warrior #type1strong #t1dmomma #insulin #type1diabetes https://www.instagram.com/p/CV6nzi6JE5Q/?utm_medium=tumblr
