Looking at Naviance makes me sick - why does it seem like for all colleges, I'll be solidly in the red x section? Parents won't let me apply OOS except for T20s, and right now, even my chances of getting into UVA, VT, etc. seem slim. Any reassurance would be greatly appreciated.

If your parents are ok with sitting down to discuss, I'd ask them for why they don't want you applying OOS. Are we talking cost, distance, prestige, etc.? This will help you in determining what OOS schools perhaps you can apply to that you can convince your parents are comparable to state schools.

I won't belabor the point — I've answered this ask in probably 20 different ways over the last two years, so feel free to go through our tags or just scroll through to see what some of my other responses have been. The long and the short of it is that it'll all work out in the end — you just might have to make compromises along the way. You'll get in somewhere, I promise!
