People from the town of Taüll (High Pyrenees, Catalonia) celebrating their town's festa major (Catalan holiday that each town celebrates on the day of their patron saint). Video posted by Catalunya Experience.

The festivity starts Friday evening with the falles (bringing down the fire from the mountain to the village, more about that on this post) and sharing coca (sweet flatbread) and wine. On Sunday, after mass, the festivities continue with the traditional dances: Ball de Sant Isidre and Ball Pla.

For the Ball de Sant Isidre, the men of the town dance in a circle around one man dressed as Saint Isidore who carries a bread and a stick. The men try to steal the saint's possessions, and the saint defends himself by hitting them with a stick. At the end of the dance, they all form a human tower, and the boy on top goes upside-down and raises his hands to wave at the four cardinal points.

The other dance, Ball Pla, is danced by all the inhabitants in couples formed by either one married man and one single woman, or one married woman and one single man.

After that, the young people of the town play music and dance to gather money, and go house by house playing music. People give them money and wine.
