25.8-IN. SNOW TIES UP CITY screamed the Daily News on December 27, 1947 (as if New Yorkers didn't know). The paper went on to say, "The worst snowstorm in New York City's history struck yesterday—a white fury that brought the nation's biggest city to a virtual standstill, snarling subways, stalling thousands of cars, slowing up harbor traffic, delaying commuter trains, and bringing death."

The second picture, taken on December 27 in Times Square, gives a good idea of how deep the drifts were.

Doctors Reveal: How You Steam Your Rice Says Something About You

My son wont eat pasta, so I steam rice in day in / day out. Mostly, I throw a cup of white basmati  and not real cup, one of those 3/4 rice-cooker cups into a steel-bottomed rice pot (I was told non-stick was carcinogenic) hit cook and wait for the steam  to gurgle and bubble  as the magic maker lets me know when it’s done.
