It’s a big thing in my fanfics for Thorin to love burying his face in Bilbo’s hair.

Fic Summary: The worst thing about lost love is that eventually you forget. You forget the exact colour of their eyes and what their voice sounds like when they laugh. You forget about the gestures they make most often or how they look when they focus. You forget the sound of their voice altogether and the colour of their hair and slowly slowly slowly, you forget everything but a name that can pierce your heart. It slowly ebbs in time, until the name and fuzzy memory is nothing more than a feeling, a dull hollow chasm where nothing remains, and it feels like there’s a piece missing, a part of you that you can never receive back. Looking into those eyes again was like plunging into arctic cold water. Bilbo had to stop himself from making an audible gasp. He felt his mouth dry, and a dull ache surface as a deep voice spoke with a controlled and cold demeanor. “You must be the burglar.”

Snippet:
“Good.” Thorin hesitated for a long moment before the words burning his tongue stumbled out. “Will he fully recover?”
Oin furrowed his brow. "No, Thorin. You know that as much as I do."
Thorin's heart sank into his gut. He knew. Of course he knew, but he still hoped otherwise. "The biggest one is what I'm mighty worried about. Goes from his left shoulder to his right hip. Those orcs nearly split him in half." Oin shook his head, "He’s very lucky he still lives.”
If only this could somehow be undone. “Is it truly that bad?” Thorin asked.
“You saw Bilbo when his back was freshly slashed.”
“There was so much blood-” He swallowed back the unsteadiness in his tone, “-It was difficult to tell.”
The healer leaned forward, his voice lowering to a volume only Thorin and Balin could hear. “He’ll have intense scarring. It'll also take the better part of a year to heal full and proper, and he won't ever have the strength he did before. This is a permanent injury that will lame his shoulder. To what degree remains to be seen."
Thorin’s shoulders dropped, his knee beginning to vibrate as he closed his eyes and breathed out heavy through his nose. "Is he asleep?"
"Yes. He didn't wake when I dealt with his dressings."
"...Will he wake up again?" Thorin pulled a hand down his face, pressing his lips together until they disappeared altogether. His mind was far too preoccupied in needing something to hold onto to worry about outward appearances at the moment.
