I often get asked by my students on how to get inspired. Generally I respond with “inspiration is for amateurs the rest of us get down to work” chuck close or “inspiration knocks while your working” Picasso. I’m sure I butcher those actual quotes but the premise is to get them to just make art. The truth is when you are making art inspiration is all around. I’ve been throwing tumblers and trying to come up with a form that I love. So far I had come up with one that I liked but really didn’t love. That is until today. A trip to my favorite local taco joint during teacher workdays resulted in taking home this styrofoam cup and I had some inspiration. Fast forward 4 weeks and I finally turned a lump of clay into my new tumbler form. Eureka I exclaimed, actually I sat back gave a full belly laugh and then snapped this picture. So to all my students past and present, inspiration is all around just keep working and stay open minded. It will happen.
