Paif is a metal similar in colour to obsidian (a black translucent crystalline structure). It is often used in many cultures to make expensive metal-wares, such as fine cutlery, as well as crafted and sculpted goods of artistic beauty. The Noffo in particular like the visual translucent properties of the metal. This combined with the availability of Paif (Nodjum: Jodfuj) in Noffian mountain mines, has led to the localisation of most Paif-ware production to the Noffian territories. For this reason, Paif is highly sought-after by royals and richer-folk of Southern Endrez. Additionally, Paif may be used in armour, jewellery and clothing throughout Orastim's royalty elite, being an indicator of their wealth. It was once moulded into small statues placed in homes for worship and good-luck, though this tradition has since gone by the way-side. Paif is often a metal only reserved for work by the Masters and Artisans (Dermang and Sugang) of the Craftsmen's guild (Caspela). Other special metals and substances exist in Orastim, which I will elaborate on in future posts. [five-star-rating]
