As the dust settled around him, a sharp stake spun lazily between his fingers. He remained poised and ready, waiting for the next challenger to make their move. This was a common greeting for him, especially on his first night in a new city. Taejun had already been on the hunt for the head of a well-known vampire for quite some time. Coincidentally, in addition to this task, the council had also decided to saddle him with a babysitting gig as a means of keeping him in line.
The role of watchers—or rather guardians—ran deep in his bloodline. Just like most of his ancestors, he had been chosen to fight alongside a gifted vampire slayer. However, the council was soon to realize that Taejun had no interest in taking on the role of being anyone's guardian. In his eyes, it was a mere distraction, an obstacle that slowed him down. He was confident in his abilities to slay the vampires on his own, even without the special abilities that the slayers possessed.
Taejun had honed his skills in combat: he was swift, relentless, and above all, he was determined to put an end to the growing problem of the vampire population becoming stronger. He was prepared to become a nuisance to whichever creature was out there leading the whole operation. At least, that was his plan until an official order from the council arrived at his door one night.
The sight of those scarlet letters turned his plans upside down, and he gritted his teeth in irritation. He could sense the bond between himself and the potential slayer he was supposed to guide and train. This realization should have come to him long ago, but he was convinced that such a thing had just skipped over him. Despite his efforts to ignore it, the council found out.
Now, here he was, on his very first night in the city where his slayer had just arrived. Yet, he was already being surrounded by vampires. A deep voice echoed from him, "Come on," before three of them sprang forward from the shadows to attack. A small smirk played on his lips as he immediately jerked into action, prepared to fight each of them. Whatever neighborhood he’d come to his slayer resided there and he was on his way to meeting her.
