Tomo Mori’s laminated glass designs for “The Wheels on the Bus” (2018) at the Manhattanville Bus Depot originated from layers of watercolor paintings inspired by integrating global fabric patterns. In “I See You”, her new show with fellow Harlem resident and Ghanaian-native artist TAFA, Mori continues to explore the theme of connection through textiles, with her handmade ropes produced from discarded fabrics given to her by family and friends. She has also created an interactive component where visitors can build their own fabric sculptures, raising the question, “What do you build when you are given power?”. “I See You” is part of Chashama’s series of exhibitions featuring immigrant artists and is on view Fri-Sun at 340 E 64th Street through March 8.
