Synopsis Being married to your high school sweetheart, Satoru Gojo, was perfect... until it wasn't. As the CEO of the largest corporation in Japan, Gojo Inc., Gojo spent more time at work than he did at home with you. After years of missed dinners, forgotten anniversaries, and countless fights, you finally had enough and divorced him. One year later, you decide to better yourself by going to grad school, where you meet Suguru Geto, the handsome professor you just can't seem to take your eyes (or hands!) off of. What happens when your new life meets your old one and you find yourself once again face-to-face with your ex-husband?
Pairing: CEO!Gojo x f!reader x Professor!Geto
Content: MDNI, angst, smut, divorced-to-remarried trope, multiple povs, eventual happy ending, willing to also do an ending for Geto if ppl are interested but canonical ending will be Gojo
"Remember class, your paper on the role of appraisal in producing anxiety and emotional exhaustion is due next class. There will be no deadline extensions or exceptions. Class dismissed," Suguru drawled to his class. You watched him from the doorway as his students gathered their belongings and started leaving the classroom, admiring the way he rolled up the sleeves on his button-up top to reveal the prominent muscles and veins in his forearms.
"Ironic, don't you think?" You tease, slipping into the room as the last of his students exited.
Suguru turns to you from his place behind his desk, brow raised, a tiny smirk playing on his lips, "How so?"
"Oh, come on, asking your students to write a paper on how their perception of an event leads to emotional distress? AND reminding them that there are absolutely no extensions for late work? That seems awfully cruel, Professor Geto," you retort.
His smirk grows into a wolfish grin as he bridges the last of the distance between you, grabbing your hands and pulling you into his chest. "Professor Geto huh?" He whispers into your ear, lightly biting the lobe before his lips travel down, planting soft kisses along the column of your neck. "It's sexy when you call me that," he murmurs. You let out a little whimper as he lightly nibbles and sucks on your delicate skin, marking his territory.
"Not here," you hiss, trying and failing pathetically to push him away, glancing nervously at the open door to his classroom.
His eyes follow your gaze, and he chuckles softly, "What? Worried you'll get caught seducing the professor?" He asks as he continues his assault on your neck. You chew your lip nervously and avert your eyes, cheeks flushing with embarrassment, before quickly nodding yes.
Suguru sighs, his eyes softening when they land on your tense face. He brings his hands up to cup your face, bringing your gaze back to his. "You know there's nothing wrong with us dating, right?" He asks softly, fingers gently brushing across your cheeks.
"I know, Sugu, I'm just not ready for anyone else to know about us yet," your murmur.
Suguru sighs and steps away from you, letting go of your face. You've had this conversation with him many times over the last six months, and you know he doesn't understand why you don't want your relationship to be public.
You and Suguru met during your first week of graduate school, which you started almost a year to the day after your divorce. Tired of always moping around and pining over your ex-husband, you decided to go back to school to get the degree you had always wanted. You went back to school looking for fulfillment, maybe a few friends, and new opportunities for the future. What you hadn't expected to find was the handsome professor with long raven hair, thick muscles that pull his button-up shirts taut, and violet eyes that could almost rival the beauty of Satoru's your ex-husband's.
You hadn't planned on ever speaking to him, but fate had different plans for you one day when you were rushing to class and accidentally bumped into him, spilling his coffee all over his shirt and scattering your papers everywhere. You were rushing to apologize, scared of how he would react, and were surprised when instead of scolding you, he gave you one of his famous smirks and told you that you owed him a coffee.
He slipped his number into your stack of papers for you to find later, ultimately taking you out for coffee and insisting he pay like the gentleman he is, despite the fact that you had been the one to spill his drink.
Six months have passed since your first encounter, but you still haven't told anyone aside from your closest friends, Yuki and Utahime, about Suguru's existence. Your divorce nearly broke you. You had been so in love with Satoru, your high school sweetheart, the only man you had ever been with prior to Suguru, and yet love wasn't enough to save your relationship with him.
Suguru hadn't met you when you were at your lowest. When you were laying in bed, refusing to move, refusing to eat for days at a time because of how much the grief consumed you.
He didn't see you when you cried yourself to sleep every night, when you shut out your friends because you were too ashamed to face them after your marriage ended.
Sure, Suguru cares for you now, but he has only seen this version of you. The one who smiles again. The one who doesn't just eat to survive but eats because she enjoys it. The one who finds joy in screaming the lyrics to her favorite songs at the top of her lungs during a long drive. The one who enjoys life again.
You'll never be the same girl you were before your marriage ended, but you've come a long way since then, and you'll be damned if you let another very public heartbreak drag you back down.
"Sugu," you whisper, reaching up to brush his bangs out of his eyes. "I care about you, okay? I just need more time before I'm ready to tell everyone about us. Please try to understand?"
Suguru pauses before nodding, placing a chaste kiss on your lips. "Are you busy tonight? I know you don't want your friends and family to know yet, but the girls keep asking about when they can meet the mystery woman I keep 'spending all my time with,'" he quotes in a high pitched voice, making you giggle.
Suguru adopted two daughters when he first started teaching, and you know those two are his pride and joy. He is fiercely protective of the two of them, and you know they are the most important people in his life. You mull over his proposal carefully, already feeling guilty for turning him down earlier.
"Stop doing that," he says softly, putting his thumb on your lip to stop you from chewing it. "I like these lips intact you know," he teases.
"Oh yeah?" You grin, placing a soft kiss on his lips. You spend another moment thinking, and before you let your mind get the better of you, you find yourself asking him, "What time should I come over?"
He beams at you, wrapping his arms around your waist and picking you up to twirl you, causing you to squeal. "How about six o'clock for dinner?" He asks.
"Sure," you smile, "I can stop by the store and grab some ingredients to bake dessert for the girls... if they like sweets, that is?"
"They love sweets," he affirms, "That's how I know they'll love you."
a/n: ahhh! First chapter is here! I'm blown away by all the interest everyone has shown for this story. I hope y'all enjoy!! I swear this is a Gojo story even though 99% of the first chapter is about Geto LMAO To clarify in case it isn't clear, Geto is a professor at the university reader is a grad student at but is not her professor (I personally don't like the power imbalance of that trope lol). We'll see our sunshine boy next chapter (and get a little story in his POV)! ✧˖°
