Artist showcase: Taikodon
Taikodon keeps a notepad with him at all times because he never knows when inspiration is going to hit, and when it strikes—he wants to be ready.
“I can't count how many times inspiration came to me out of completely nowhere at very unsuspected times.”
He doesn’t survive on inspiration alone, though. This Marty McFly piece taught him the importance of using references for his work, a habit not held by all artists.
Inspiration hit hard when he was just a kid and his dad brought him an issue of One Piece. No matter the number of time he read it, the art struck him. He couldn’t shake it, and instead bought art supplies and started drawing.
“I guess One Piece was my gateway drug to the art community I am part of today.”
His style changes, but he strives to keep a consistency within his pieces his fans can recognize as his own.
Murata’s reputation from his work on Eyeshield 21 brought One Punch Man to Taikodon’s attention. It didn’t disappoint.
“One Punch Man is just everything I want to be and I want to make with my art. I love the characters, I love the story, I love the redone work Murata did. It's really something I have not seen yet, and I love every bit of it.”
