During our North Carolina vacation last week, Val and I took a 1/2 day float on the South Holston with @sohoflyshop and guide @claywoods_ff. We had a “lost count of the number caught” type of day with the exceptional guide service provided by Clay. We fished 10 ft 4 wts with a bottom bouncing double nymph rig below a yarn indicator-the type of rig I hate to fish, but Clay was able to quickly untangle/re-rig all my casting screwups to keep us on fish. . A huge shoutout and thanks to Cade of @mtntrout who recommended the South Holston River Fly Shop after having to cancel our originally booked trip with Mountain Troutfitters due to low water conditions on a freestone river in NC. . My first time fishing tailwater was very successful. Saw some massive fish and hooked the three brown trout sized 16-20 inches. Hauled beetles across the pool from the top right of the dam and plopped 'em below a tree. I take it that wasn't the first time terrestrials seemed to plop out of the tree on the water, so the trout knew what to do. Although dams are any flyfishermans worst enemy, we might as well take advantage of the tailwaters while they are still here.

Six hour drive, home long enough for dinner with Mom and Dad, drive two hours back into TN for the night bite. They were hungry.
