The Taka-onna is a yōkai from Japanese folklore. Also known as "the tall woman," she appears as a woman with a grotesquely elongated body. She is said to haunt brothels, often scaring those on the second floor by appearing outside the window. Sometimes, women who were shunned by men because of their appearance were said to become Taka-onna.

The Taka-onna rose to prominence in 2016, when a statue representing the yōkai in the city of Gobō was removed from its base and dumped in the harbour.
