Joni Mitchell performing her song “The Wizard of Is” whose melody is taken from Leonard Cohen’s “Suzanne”—CBC’s Take 30, May 1967.
Take 30 goes across the pond to survey the fashion and music scene in swingin' London.
I caught this as part of a CBC From the Vaults program that gave some of the context and more of the interviews they did for original, including one with author Tom Wolfe. The inclusion of modern day commentary from the hosts was also a nice touch, with Adrienne Clarkson remarking on the scene as a sort of “phosphorescence of decay” of the England that was.
