A proposed (though MAJOR) alteration to the SK/Jumbor/ULTIMO timeline;
They
I will do it, too. But I will not do it the way he did.
Docult's creation of the Jumbor following Dunstan's betrayal and disappearance is very clearly derivative. But he doesn't ask his creations to fight one another. He doesn't carve their souls into little pieces. He gives them the joys of humanity. He doesn't fucking mess with the fabric of reality.
At least, he doesn't do so intentionally. He's so deep in his idea that he is inherently better than Dunstan, his spite hides the imperfections in the reality he lives in. The fabric of his realities is intact, sure... but it's so, so fragile. So thin. While Dunstan's creations must be terribly strong to claw their way through the little holes Dunstan left behind, it's like wet paper for Something Else to slip, unnoticed, into the world of the Jumbor.
By tearing away so much of humanity, not just allowing, but enabling Genber to smash the ideas of spirituality and myth and art, he's affected the entire world. He's given space to the things that slowly scrape away at the fabric, that make it thinner and thinner and thinner until it can be seen through.
But Docult doesn't see it. He is tunnel-visioned to his creation. To improving, to expanding. It isn't until he becomes Drill that he starts to let his tunnel expand. That Trickery comes around and forces himself into his awareness. That he actually starts to investigate the existence of Shear. That Vise starts trying to push him to see what he's seen. To accept it.
But to accept it... it means he's no better than the man who chose to protect some criminal guinea pig over the one he claimed to love. Maybe that's part of why he gets lax. Why he starts to let his guard down with regards to his ex. He thinks MAYBE he understands.
He realizes just how fucking wrong he is when he's clinging, desperately, to Shear's unconscious body. Someone he wanted to protect. There is no forgiving Dunstan. The man's madness has only grown.
Fucking around with more Sidera Regnant stuff, namely festivals/important events that would occur in the city itself over the course of a year.
Silver Moon Festival 🌕
Late winter/early spring, meant to signify the start of the year and a new cycle beginning. Color themes focus around silvers and deep blues. Occasionally one may find small shrines devoted to the Starred Bride, in both celebration to her existence and the coming of her “birth”. Very common for weddings ceremonies to happen around this time. Usually runs around a week long or so. Favorite holiday of the Kurai musō-ka.
Flower Festival 🌺
The coming of spring; birth and growth. Time to start a new harvest. Colors are found in lighter, paler hues resembling blossoms arising from latent snow. Two main events are held in Midian during this time; one to celebrate the birth of children who were born in the city since the year prior, and one to celebrate those who have come of age in adulthood in the city. The Rosaceae family’s biggest (and busiest) days of the year.
Festival of Crimson Night 🏮
Summer festival. Colors associates are deep reds and black. Features elements associated with the Kitsune no Kamen, so it’s not uncommon to find a lot of fox motif items in the city. If one is lucky they may be able to catch a brief glimpse of her through their windows the night before festivities begin, as she is the reason the streets of the city will be adorned in crimson blooms. Main festival events are only for one day, but subsequent celebrations can happen over the next couple of days.
Souls and Spirits Festival 🍂
Fall festival, worldly associations to the autumn equinox/Day of Remembrance. Typical fall colors of oranges, yellows, and browns, splashes of brighter colors here and there. Time for harvest, for celebration, and for remembering those who are no longer with us. Candles will be lit and offerings left at the graves of loved ones. Very common to find shrines dedicated to the Cosmic King, since he is the ultimate symbol of grief and love in Midian. Three day festival.
Festival of Lights 🕯️
Early winter festival, also known as the Founder’s Festival. Celebrated annually in “winter” to celebrate the creation of Midian/the Sidera and is the one time the majority of the palace is open to the public. Colors founds in creams, golds, and silver. Themes found in stars and constellations. Biggest festival of the proverbial year, and celebrations can last almost an entire month. Parades, events, entertainment of all sorts of varieties.
Festival of the Ending 🎐
Midwinter festival. Longest night of Midian. Time to ward off wayward and malevolent spirits. Deep blue lanterns are lit around Midian, ones that are meant to capture these forgotten souls and send them off. Not a whole lot of major celebrations, but still treated very seriously. One of the few times the Senmetsu-sha will walk through the city, purging it of those that wish it harm. Take heed of their presence, and stay out of her way.
Thinking about Mask and Wraps.
In his original timeline, Mizho figured the split out pretty quick, and was the one to name their two halves via nicknames.
I'm considering if maybe they have some kind of... weaker variant of the glitch that affects ultimate evils. He's definitely a Paresse who hasn't unlocked his evil 1.0 programming, but it's entirely possible he's still affected by it. Or something else entirely just busted something in their noggin.
And did.
But once it happened, he still didn't really fuck w/ Vice. Mask is a lot more ambitious than Paresse ever was and figured he could take Ultimo out on his own.
Very much in a sneaky, underhanded way. Possibly some fake out 'Ive turned good--uh-oh I betrayed you, woopsie!' kinda deal.
Wraps probably didn't have much faith in the plan right away. And nothing... really bad happened right away after Ulti's death. No earth shattering devastation, no immediate intervention by Dunstan--he'd probably already abandoned the timeline anyways, too far separated from what he wanted--but that just meant Mask and Wraps were left unsupervised with Ultimo's remains for quite a while.
They probably spent days just piecing together how the noh worked, mostly out of pure curiosity more than anything.
[Timeloop stuff]
But upon figuring out how to use it, just really fucked with their own timeline for a while. Likely got a side eye from the Facility, but nothing major.
They probably got a slap on the wrist from the Facility, but once they knew there were others, it was all over. Stars in their eyes and the wind at their heels, they had an endless expanse to just fuck around in and they were off.
Not until accidentally switching timelines. And then spending a month figuring out how the fuck to do it again. They hunted down that timeline's ULTIMO and worked on their device more, perfecting it. And then did it again.
And again.
The rest is pretty much history. They work with bounty hunters and with black market dealers, specifically groups affiliated more with the Roost, a network affectionately nicknamed the 'Nest'.
("Have any eggs in the Nest?" Is a common code phrase for "Have you checked if the black market has what you need?" or "Have you seen anything interesting on the black market?")
In the grand scheme of things, Mask and Wraps aren't any big deal, nor are they particularly powerful. They're a line-jumper(slang for someone who moves between timelines), but don't fuck with too much after one incident with Quinn and their former group together. They go in, they get the shit they need, they get out. Maybe harass a person or two, scare the shit out of someone, and maybe fuck someone to get off some steam, but then they dip.
Douji to Jumbor - Who is related to who?
Something something as much as Dunstan loved and trusted Docult, there was some part of him that knew the man’s plans and desires would inevitably lead to a decaying planet, so at the last minute he created a program to help “rebirth the earth” to combat the affects of the Jumbor.
The smell of burning oil was awful. But the sounds had stopped. Akira kept his hands clamped over his mouth and dared to slowly peer around the corner at what remained of his douji... And the thing bent over his body.
His hands lowered as shock rippled through his thoughts.
"Paresse?"
