Tonight's Delight: More takeout falafel plate! 🧆😋🥙
This time, hotter and fresher, because Mr. C decided he was really in the mood for some kebab from our closest source: X Falafel! And just popped over there to get it.
They just keep the truck set up at the shopping center not that far away. And do seem to do booming business there! Not too surprised, with 5/5 star ratings on both Google and FB.
Including a bunch of reviews like this, regarding their evidently super legit Syrian style falafel:
And this is Falafel Town! A number of the reviews are also likely coming from other folks in the neighborhood, since we did end up moving to that kind of semi-affordable "bad" part of town. 🤡 Where there's really no shortage of falafel, in a city where competition is already pretty stiff!
(Among other tasty tasty options, btw. Including some Somali, Afghan, and Bosnian places which I'm still looking forward to trying.)
At any rate, X Falafel's specialty did not disappoint.
Started off slow again, while the fried stuff was still hot--and honestly got pretty full off that!
For some reason, they didn't have any fresh cucumber when he went over there at suppertime. But, it looked like they maybe tried to make up for it with extra julienned sour cucumber pickles (and possibly the raw onion, which I mostly set off to the side).
The pickles seem to be a fairly standard part of the kebab/falafel joint fresh veggie selection here, from the little I have experienced so far. Hadn't seen that elsewhere, but certainly not going to complain! The little bit of contrast works surprisingly well.
I really wasn't sure what they had in the sauce department, though I did gather from looking at reviews later that they are indeed offering a very Syrian tahini sauce. Would have preferred to get some of that too, if I had known when Mr. C was heading out the door. As it was, he brought in a fairly standard local assortment of kebab sauces.
Which I generally prefer to add as I'm eating, because I'm just persnickety that way. 😊 From the right, we've got some yogurt-mayo garlic sauce (though I preferred another place's version), mild mayo-based kebabsås, and hot kebabsås--which seems to be the same, except for enough extra cayenne powder added to turn it that color. Even with the creamy base, theirs was pretty aggressive, too!
Also not gonna complain about that. The touch of heat was welcome in the sea of creaminess, and I thought a combo of the garlic sauce and hot kebabsås went particularly well with the fries.
Very satisfying meal, though I hadn't planned on ordering falafel in. Glad Mr. C suggested it, even without a good chance to look at their menu first! 😅
