It was just an normal day.
Key word here was the word WAS.
Takeru should have known something was off from the moment he noticed it. But he was an idiot and just shook it off.
He was thankful for the black haired girl that came to his home that morning. He been running around town since then.
He should have known something was wrong the moment she showed up.
~ There was an girl with unbrush black hair.
Takeru was outside with his cars under the tree he had on his front yard.
“Can I help you?” He asked as he walked toward the girl.
She had an worried look on her face as she stare at Kouhai-Chan’s house only then looking at him in the eyes.
“Are you Takeru-Kun?” She asked quietly.
“Yeah” He answered, running his finger on the bottom of his car. Playing with the tires. Rolling them back and forth. Something he did when he was nervous or bored.
The response he got back made the car in his hand crash to his grass lawn. Running out the yard faster than he had ever ran.~
His feet were sore from running, but that just made him run even faster. He just checked half of town and haven’t found her yet. And his body told him to stop. But wasn’t going to until he finds her.
He still can’t believe she didn’t tell him. They told each other everything. To what they had for dinner to the family business.
And the moment he saw the black haired girl he should have noticed it. At first he thought she just an friend of Kouhai’s. Or another family member.
But they looked nothing alike. The girl seem to have cold eyes as when Takeru would see Kouhai’s, they were warm like the sun itself.
She had light pale skin as Kouhai’s was lightly tanned due to the hours being used up when she went outside to play.
He was such an idiot in not knowing earlier.
That stopped Takeru in his tracks.
“Kouhai-Chan?” He whisper trying to pinpoint the source of the sound. Looking around knowing now she was close by.
“Or what! You are going to cry again!”
“YEAH CRYBABY!!! SHOW US SOME TEARS!!!!”
“Please…….leave me alone……”
Takeru ran from corner store to every alley he could think of. But he ran up to one , he prayed that it’s wasn’t the one Kouhai-Chan was struck in.
It was called Back Line Alley. An alley all kids feared of walking by. Whenever he walked home with Kouhai-Chan, he would pull her out of the alley’s way. Just in case something was out there to get them . That and it was the most known of the group of trouble kids that hanged out there. The Gradeschool Bullies. The oldest kids known to be in grade school. Held back or just came to school late at age.
He peaked at the corner to find Kouhai-Chan dripping tears from her eyes. She had dirt all over her, making it hard to see the bruise on her left cheek. And the scratch on her arm that bleed slowly as time went on.
“Or what, crybaby?” The boy that held Kouhai by her pigtails asked harshly as if this time he wanted an answer. Pulling her hair higher. Making her cringe. Harder to keep her tears out of her face that already started to pour out.
The boy that held Kouhai-Chan had dyed hair. Styled in an mess with some weird grease. Giving it an unhealthy look.
Kouhai sniffed back her tears as they leak from her face. It was just too much for her. The boy was holding her high with her hair. Her arm sting with the dirt and her bruise was too much an pain to handle when she tried to speak or screamed.
Takeru thought it was overwhelming as well. He never thought to see Kouhai-Chan like this. The one and only time she was close to this was the time she fell off her bike to an rocky patch of dirt. Scratching her legs. He could still remember the moment when she stop for an while and cried. He want to cry as well just seeing her like that. It’s hurt to see your loved ones in tears.
His hands curled to fist that hanged by his side. He didn’t want to sees Kouhai-Chan like this anymore. It just had to stop.
“LEAVE HER ALONE!” He yelled. Catching the attention of the grease haired kids and his backup. Which were two girls. One tall and lean and the other short and chubby.
“Take-niichan…” Kouhai smiled weakly. But fell as the boy dropped her hair and her to the floor. Taking the chance, she tried to get out of there. But was pulled back by the smaller girl. Her hand gripping Kouhai’s upper arm. Pulling her back to the floor.
“Look who we got here.” Laughed the boy, walking toward Takeru.
“My guess is you want that girl, right?” He stated harshly. Which he followed as looking back at Kouhai-Chan.
The kid fell to the ground. Hugging his knee. Cursing as he winced at the pain. Takeru took the moment when he was busy talking to kicks his shin. Causing the whole fall on the rough ground.
“MIKE!!” yelled the two girls in sync as they rushed to the guy ‘Mike’ trying to help him up. Letting Kouhai-Chan unsupervised.
“Let get out of here.” Takeru whispered as he help Kouhai-Chan up. Her legs were scratched up as well in the fall of her being pushed to the floor earlier. Takeru didn’t want to be her run in her state so he did the best thing he could think of under 10 second.
He grabbed her hands wrapping them around his neck as he handled her legs by his side. Basically carrying her piggy-back style.
Running out of there before the older kids knew they were gone.
It was an quiet walk home.
Kouhai was sleeping. Her breaths smoothly brushed Takeru’s neck. Giving him an warm feeling.
Her heartbeats were steady as well. Unlike his. It was racing out of his chest but that the same time it in sync with hers.
He just took an deep breath. He was passing the last block. Weirdly he didn’t want to be done with this. He wanted to walk like this for an while more. Maybe for an hour or two.
His hands were an bit red. Since the blood on Kouhai’s knees stained his hand an bit during he walk. Another reason he couldn’t walk like this forever.
Hopefully, tomorrow would be different. Not this bully trouble. But they could may go to the local playground. Swing on the red swings for the time they would be there. Laughing and talking together.
But he thought that to do that, he had to talk with Kouhai first.
Why didn’t she tell him about this?
He was lucky to get there in time before something worse happened.
The thought of something like that haunted Takeru-kun. It was bad enough she had an bruise on her face. What if it was an black eyes or an cut?
His head raced with thoughts as he faced his front door. This was it. He had an first-aid kit in his bathroom so he would be able to cut Kouhai’s cuts. But after that he had no idea how to tell his mom and hers about this.
