I got a postcard from @takiki16 yesterday. or more like a TREPHAcard amirite fellas

cover for if never again, if every day by @gallifreyburning​ & @takiki16​, based on felix gonzalez-torres’ ‘untitled (perfect lovers)’ (1991)

In 1987, Torres' partner Ross Laycock was diagnosed with AIDS. Influenced by the idea that "art should act right now," Torres created three editions of the piece and one artist's proof from 1987–1990. In a letter sent to Laycock in 1988, he showed a rough sketch of the piece, entitled merely Lovers. In the letter Torres ruminates about time, writing:

Don't be afraid of the clocks, they are our time, the time has been so generous to us. We imprinted time with the sweet taste of victory. We conquered fate by meeting at a certain time in a certain space. We are a product the time, therefore we give back credit were it is due: time. We are synchronized, now forever. I love you.

Additional random thoughts below the cut:

Ugggggghhhhh this story was so adorable! >.< Also I decided that I really wanted to do the dialogue in the characters’ voices as much as possible, and I’m hoping it comes off as respectful and not stereotypical? I accept concrit about that. Anyhow I watched clips of MJ from Spider-man Homecoming and now I want to watch that movie, it looks cute! Also MJ’s deadpan is great. And I watched a lot of the T’Challa-Shuri sibling stuff A LOT of times. Linguistic telephone - I’m trying to mimic Shuri and T’Challa’s accents which themselves are based on South African/Xhosa accents, flavored with the actors’ original accents.

Things I noticed and tried to get across: Shuri rolls her Rs in R-clusters (br-, cr-, etc.) more strongly than T’Challa does, de-rhotacization of vocalic Rs aka taking out more of the R sound in syllables like -ar, -er/ir/ur, and -or, and playing a little with the ups and downs of overall sentence stress across a whole sentence.

Ugggh I love this imagining of the Shuri/MJ dynamic. <3

this may be unnecessary, but JUST A QUICK NOTE about when Frank "takes Karen hostage" to escape the hotel - Karen is literally DOING THE SAME THING HE DID FOR HER IN DD s2. She is PROTECTING HIM WITH HER WHOLE BODY, the same way Frank did for her when the Blacksmith shot up her apartment!

NGL, I ALSO have this feeling!!! The watermelon is Mine Own - it has been my icon since my very early fandom days when I was lurking on sketchy geocities libraries and reading flame wars on ffn and deviantart. I made it myself in gotdam Microsoft Paint bc "Watermelon" was one of the first nicknames I ever got as a kid, and I Feel Very Fondly towards it!

(also at the height of the campaign, I legitimately couldn't tell my blog apart from other blogs who were joining the effort lol)
