This is ancient (2004), but the entire newsletter is on the archaeology of the ancient Silk Road. The Taklamakan desert and the Tarim Basin in particular are absolutely fascinating areas of archaeology. Tall, blonde-haired mummies, wrapped in tartan wool, and all in an area in which their presence is completely unexpected.
