Essay on why I love Candice Patton
Me in my Candice Patton Sweatshirt
If you guys couldn’t tell all ready tell I absolutely adore Candice Patton. I got this sweatshirt because I wanted something with my favorite celebrity on it. I love Candice so much. She is a talented actress, she is gorgeous and deserves more recognition but is getting that thanks to the Flash. Candice has made history in the comic book universe by being the first black female lead in comics. Iris West Allen is a traditionally white character and she was the first black woman to be cast in a lead role. Thanks to Candice Patton movie Iris West Allen is also being played by a woman of color and it is awesome to see. Candice has forever changed the world in comic book history. I also love the fact that Candice has adovocated and continues to advocate for young females which is why she is a confounding member of Shethority her and Caity Lotz came up with the idea on a hike. This was Candice’s way of giving back to her fans and have an open discussion about why women are pitted against each other and the struggles of being a woman. Shethority is a safe place for LGBTQ women and women of color. She continues to advocate for women working together and advocates for diversity behind the scenes. This means if you hire black actresses this means having black writers in the writer’s room, having people who know how to do black make up and black hair. Another reason I adore Candice Patton is because she is an ambassador for the innocence project. I also have respect for her because a costar who played her TV brother came out to her as queer first and she didn’t tell anyone for at least 7 months until he was ready too. I also love the fact that despite the hate and racism she gets she can rise above it and still show support to other people and uses her position of power to do positive things. She is a very well spoken woman and I have loads of respect for the work she puts in to help make the acting business a safe place/space for young black women and girls. When Flash is over I would love to see her do more acting projects because she is incredible actress and she deserves more recognition!
