Hi, @cyandlne! I was your Tales of secret santa this year. >O< I hope this is okay...I wanted to include Hubert but I ran out of time;; I hope you like my gift anyway! Happy holidays~
Note: Hey there, @livi-centric i was told you like Rose/Alisha so I hope you like this wintery-themed fic for these two adorable ladies. This is meant to take place after the DLC and has one major spoiler for the main game ending. Lemme know if you have an ao3 so I can gift it to you on there!
(Hope you enjoy and have a great year.)
Alisha thought it about time that Hyland and Rolance started reaching out to other foreign powers. The fact that they had a new Shepherd only hastened the need in Alisha’s eyes and she deemed it would be best to introduce Rose sooner rather than later.
When she went to ask Sergei for his support he immediately started preparations and so in another week she, Rose, Sergei, and a small squadron of men from both kingdoms were off to the cold, Northern continent of Ceridwen.
Rose complained at first (of course), but once they set sail she was as jubilant as ever.
“We’ll have to bring back souvenirs for everyone. Ooh, and it has to be a really weird one for Mikleo!”
Alisha was ashamed to say she found herself preoccupied with the thought that this was her first journey with Rose that did not include the seraphim. Ever since the two women had begun a relationship it had been difficult to be alone together, despite Lailah’s (often disastrous) efforts to the contrary.
Sergei seemed to sense something between the shepherd and squire for he encouraged them to explore the capital together before the proceedings the next morning. The afternoon swiftly turned into evening as the two sampled the local food and culture. Rose had been showing Alisha how to haggle with an unprepared shopkeeper when they both noticed someone was watching them.
Alisha gasped. The woman standing in a nearby doorway was surely a seraph! Her robes were of a different cut than the style Alisha had seen the seraphim wear on Glenwood, but her regal bearing and slight air of mistrust gave her away.
“Hey there,” Rose said, turning away from the shopkeeper. She and Alisha shared a look before they followed the seraph into the nearby building. It seemed to be some sort of shrine, although in great disrepair.
“I’d heard rumors of the Shepherd’s return,” the Seraph whispered. “But I needed to see for myself.”
“Well, here I am.”
The seraph still seemed mesmerized by Rose’s appearance, but when Alisha tried to tell their story she could barely get a word in before the barrage of questions began.
Rose took it all very well (perhaps too well in Alisha’s opinion). The seraph seemed very young if her childish enthusiasm was anything to go by but it was always so hard to tell. Alisha couldn’t help but feel a bit left out and even threatened when the seraph leaned in closer to listen to Rose.
(But Rose had never promised her unending commitment. This wasn’t a fairy tale, she chided herself).
Alisha was brought back to reality by the seraph’s next words:
“You have such powerful resonance. Why you could probably become a seraph right now, just like in the legend”.
Rose’s façade of nonchalance faded as she locked eyes with Alisha over the young seraph’s head. The princess knight’s own features had softened into something like sorrow. Surely, they were both thinking of their dear friend Sorey and who he would be when he (if he) ever woke.
Alisha had never considered the path of a seraph for Rose, but if that was what she wished…
“Don’t I get a say in this?”
Rose’s cheery voice cut through the air and Alisha couldn’t help but think it didn’t sound natural. The seraph seemed preoccupied by the question however, and frowning, stammered “Well, of course there’s a certain level of will involved, but –“
“Thanks then,” Rose grinned, cutting her off. “But I have a lot on my hands just being a human.” She raised her arms to the sky as if to stretch but seemed to change her mind mid action and instead draped one around Alisha who had drawn closer. The newly flustered princess could see a warmth in Roses eyes that hadn’t been there before. Her grin turned into a real smile as she said
“Besides I’m not planning on going anywhere for a long time you know, what with all the people I have to live for.”
Alisha knew that Rose must be talking about her family, the Sparrow Feathers, but as the red haired girl continued to gaze at her, Alisha couldn’t help but think they weren’t the only ones she meant. Her heart rate sped up at the realization. Only the sound of the Seraph’s confused and slightly indignant retort roused her from her thoughts.
“Anyway,” Rose said, smoothly cutting in again. “We best be getting on to meet up with the Rolance forces. Later then.” Alisha almost didn’t time to bow before Rose’s arm snaked around her waist this time and she dragged them both off.
Alisha still felt like her head was full of clouds and she struggled to get her thoughts in order once they were outside.
“Sergei gave me directions to the inn where we’ll be saying. It’s past the brewery.”
Rose nodded in response but seemed preoccupied with her own thoughts. Alisha was about to ask if she could help at all when a splash of white caught her eye. She looked up to see countless falling flakes of ice
“Snow!”
She had shouted without meaning to and the princess knight immediately put her hands over her mouth in embarrassment “Oh dear… It’s just I’ve never seen… I mean I’ve read about it but-”
“Alisha,” Rose smiled. “Come here.” Alisha was struck again by how warm her Shepherd’s eyes were. She took a step forward but wavered.
“We’ll catch a cold if we linger.”
“I don’t care,” Rose laughed and closed the distance between them. When Rose brushed her cheek with the palm of her hand Alisha’s whole body went warm at the touch. The snow fel; fast around them but as Alisha brought her lips to Rose’s she had never felt more secure.
