Are you dead?

No! 

I haven’t been active on this blog the past few months because life has been kind of wild. As it turns out, I’ll be going to Korea for two months this Summer for sure, which means I’ve been working my butt off to be able to afford study abroad fees. But about a week ago I was nominated by my professor to the Chicago consulate / embassy as a good candidate for the TaLK program (Teach and Learn in Korea). I had considered it before but taking a year off school never appealed to me but in light of scholarships being cut left and right at my uni, it seemed more attractive. 

So, I’m scrambling with applications for Ehwa and TaLK, expediting passports and transcripts and getting background checks and writing lesson plans and it’s all very stressful but exciting! In a few months’ time I’ll be bringing you language resources from Korea! I will also be doing a series of beginners resources very, very soon. My older sister, drowning in college debt and already and a qualified english has also decided to apply to teach this fall  but she speaks literally zero Korean (maybe even a little less than that, lol) so I’m going to prepare a crash course in Korean grammar, survival vocab, and some day-to-day necessities for vegetarians so she won’t like, die once I leave town. 

But I just wanted to share a bit with you all about this opportunity and should I get it, I definitely want to share the opportunity with all of the Korean learners here on tumblr!!

Blessed up! I got accepted into the TaLK Program but I’m going to have to decline the offer 😭 Honestly, I would much rather do the TaLK Program over EPIK but I already accepted the offer and placement from EPIK. I don’t want to be penalized for a year so I’m stuck with EPIK now. I’m glad I can say I was accepted into both programs and if I wanted to do TaLK, I could.

Grateful for all these oppurtunities and hoping for many more in the future!

I know I haven’t posted much about my ~*~*~serious blog~*~*~ in a while, but I’ve been putting together an EPIK Guide series. For those of you who don’t know, EPIK stands for “English Program in Korea” and is an opportunity for native English speakers to teach in South Korea. 

My most recent topic is on “Getting By vs Learning Korean” and the language expectations for Guest English Teachers in Korea. Other topics have included:

General Life Updates

● I am no longer working as a TaLK Scholar. In August I finished a full two years with the program and I decided it was time to move on. I had a wonderful experience with the TaLK Program and I have nothing but positives things to say about it. I highly would recommend this program to anyone who is interested in coming to South Korea but doesn't want to fully commit to a full time position. It is a great way to put your foot into the door and experience what South Korea has to offer before you decide to immerse yourself into a real job. ● Since leaving the TaLK Program I have started a new full time job and I am now employed at a major kindergarten hagwon chain in Gangnam. I started this position in mid August and so far I have been loving each minute of it. The school and the staff members have been so welcoming and teaching such young children is so much more fun. We do a lot of creative activities and cooking classes together. I am really looking forward to spending the next year at this school. ● I have wanted to get more involved online and create a social media presence this year. I religiously follow tumblr blogs and youtubers that upload content regarding life in South Korea or Japan. I find it so interesting and entertaining and would love to be able to create my own content and upload it so I want to start taking a lot more pictures and uploading information regarding the TaLK Program and general updates to this tumblr. Eventually I would love to create youtube videos and I have started to dabble a little into editing but I think I will have to wait a little longer to upload well crafted videos. ● Another thing I have wanted to do this year was to meet and make a lot of new friends. I have started speaking to people on language exchange applications and that has been going well but I would love to meet people from tumblr. I have noticed that there are quite a few people living in Seoul that use tumblr and have met people through it - so if there is anyone interested in meeting or making a new friend I would be happy to get coffee sometime.
