The first actual reference to #613commandments is not found in scripture but instead is found in a lengthy #Talmudic passage. The Rabbi Simlai (third century A.D.) is quoted as saying, “Six hundred and thirteen #precepts were communicated to Moses, three hundred and sixty-five negative precepts, …and two hundred and forty-eight positive precepts…For instance, a statute in Deuteronomy 22:8 says to make a low wall about 3 feet tall around your roof.
