Woooo backstory stuff with Fishpaw and Talontooth. Bad Medicine cat who's apprentice had to go behind her back to learn how to actually care for her clan. Maybe it was prophecy, maybe just bitterness, but Talontooth's words rang true.

You better follow up on Blackpaw and how she's doing in the afterlife. I refuse to belive she stays anxious and despairing. I want to see her happy, this is a threat.

(Joking but still. To have her never grow into herself is SO SAD)

Well, she doesn’t have a body anymore, which means she (and all StarClan cats actually) don’t feel hunger, or the need to breathe…or have a heartbeat…it’s a very, very alien sensation to the newly-dead. It can be terrifying at first - a soul feeling like they’re tied to a corpse like a phantom limb.

…Until they actually stop and stare and watch what they’re made of, souls made of stars. The stars shine, and burn, and die out, and turn into explosions of elements that turn into stars made anew, with planets circling them, caught in their pulls. Star expands. Bursts with energy. Gravity collapses it, making a new star. Expand. Collapse. Expand. Collapse. Again. Like the universe inhaling and exhaling over and over and over.

Their entire bodies breathe. The universe breathes. The earth breathes. Inhales in the spring and summer. Exhales in fall and winter. They still breathe, even now - just not the same way they did in life.

…Blackpaw takes some time to get used to it, but it’s hard to stay self conscious or scared when she realizes how beautiful the stars are. From below, she could barely see dots of starlight creeping through the dark sky. But from up here...

It's beautiful. It's so, so beautiful.

She's scared for her family. Her friends left behind. She misses them. But everything is so bright. And everything feels so, so small from up here. Even the Woodcrawlers are so small. So helpless from up here.

Talontooth says it's a feeling of wonder that she'll learn to grapple with over time. It can be...very overwhelming at first.

I've been rereading the first chapters and man. Talon being the first apprentice to not have a trial in a while and him being so happy about it..... Being in a way a symbol of change in the clan and hope... And then sacrificing himself to the woods anyway. To keep everyone safe. Oughhhh your writing is very good.

Loyalty, bravery, sacrifice, death :)

Sorry if this was already addressed in one of the moons or elsewhere, but did Talontooth and Morningspot have family in ForestClan? Mostly thinking about when a good number of cats left the clan after Redstar became leader, if the parents just...left their kids in the clan

My original plan was for them to be found on the territory randomly (similar to Shiverstep) buuuut maaaaaybe Talontooth was found the moon before Lakestar was overthrown? Morningspot was found very young, there’s about a three moon gap (ish) between Lakestar dying and Moon 0. It’s not a big plotpoint but I might change my mind about this later if I want. For all intents and purposes Talontooth and Morningspot are abandoned outsider kits unless I decide otherwise
