Rainbow Mermaid by Tamara Laporte
And here’s my ”Beauty in the Shadow”, my adorable and colourful little monster 🥰 (previous post here: https://nodramalamacorn.tumblr.com/post/646893184985841664/2021-mar-28-taking-a-pause-from-seth-apters)
Look at this book I got today at Michael's!

2021 feb 13 // I’m on a roll 😄 I’ve completed the bonus art session ”Zen Butterfly” that was in this week’s Life Book
I love zentangle, it’s so relaxing and energizing. I really took my time on this one and spended the whole day doodling.
A before pic:
And finally, a couple of close ups:
I hope you have a happy saturday!
2021 jan 6 // After one heck of a lazy day yesterday, watching Damages season 1, today I got my thumbs out and did a new art session with Tamara Laporte teaching in Life Book. This one is called The Happy Owl and oh my is it colourful! This painting certainly brightens my day 😊✨
So here’s the drawing I did, following Tam’s instructions:
And here’s the finished result:
I find playing with watercolours is really fun and liberating, but it’s difficult... I have no clue what I’m doing but am just following the process in the video session.
We got two sessions this week, next I am to make a Good Luck Charm, really looking forward to that one ☺️
2021 jan 3 // The main art lesson in Life Book week 1 was about painting a woman. And for the life of me I can’t draw people. And to be honest, I’m not all that interested in drawing people either... so I thought I’ll skip it and wait for the new art lessons coming with week 2 (tomorrow).
But, I got restless yesterday - inspiration was spiring but I didn’t know what to do. So oh what the heck, lets give that lady a shot. And oh my goodness I think this was the most difficult painting I’ve ever done in my life. I have no experience with watercolours and all these layers.. but WOW is Tamara Laporte an amazing teacher or what! There were several moments I thought I for sure had ruined my painting. But Tam was methodical yet so free in her artistry and so reassuring, I trusted the fact that it would all work out in the end.
Here’s my drawing prior to painting (using watercolour pens and crayons and acrylic paint):
And here’s the finished painting:
I must say that I’m stunned that I with Tam’s guidance accomplished this. I have never been able to draw a mouth, EVER. But there you go 😄
I decided to make the woman’s eyes ridiculously large and to put antlers on her head. The headpiece was also something I added. Perhaps you recognize the necklace? I totally stole it from Neytiri (from the Avatar movie).
I spended like 6 hours on the drawing last night, and worked about 12 hours straight today with the layers and paints.
A sooo much fun project, but I’m not sure I’d do it again 😬
2021 feb 11 // Life Book week 7, and I’ve completed the art lesson ”Beary Awesome”
I glued some pieces of old newspaper on the background, and made some green gelli prints on tissue paper which I glued on top. And had to add some postage stamps of course. The bear is painted with water soluble crayons and I used black and white Posca pens.
