Danielle's Story:
"I was born to a very diverse home. It was pretty expected in my nations-merged country I'll be born to a father from middle-eastern origin and mother from a European origin.. they have almost nothing in common, so when I was 4 they divorced, and home was splitted to the rules-lover, organized side of mom and the freed, "airy" side of dad. Well, as you can guess I was daddy's girl and the Iraqian ideology was just perfect to my ideas-plentiful mind. But still, living in two different homes influenced my playing a lot: The classical education tools that were given to me from young age beside intuitive, independent compositions and arabic flutes playing ornaments that i've developed for myself.
I used to play many instruments: piano, recorder and even violin between the ages 4-8. At the age of 9 my dad taught me to play the guitar, and I liked (and I still like) playing it very much! but.. It wasn't "that".
A second before started 6th grad, In which I was supposed to learn playing an Alto recorder, school changed his mind and decided to teach the traverso flute instead. So I just said "hmm.. Alright, let's flow with that." I came to the first private lesson with the teacher, she showed me how into the flute. I took the embouchure to my hand, I blew.. And a sound was made immediately. I still remember the teacher's surprised face when it happened (succeeding making a sound on the first blow is extremely rare: it can take a few lessons until you actually do that). In this simple second I fell in love with the flute. Started practicing 3-4 hours a day. At the beginning I was a totally classical player, 'till I got to knowing Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull. His playing is just so expressive, fascinating and verve-full. and he's crazy as me! He became my main inspiration. Afterwards, when I got interested in Jazz, the flutists Eric Dolphy, Yosef Lateef and the astounding Rahsaan Roland Kirk were added to my inspirations list. Later I began hearing Dream Theater, Animals As Leaders, Haken (that became a good friends because of their collab with my dad) and also the “hardcore” of prog: Genesis, Yes, King Crimson and Focus. They all inspired my playing and my musical material very much."
Danielle has been recording and showing a lot with her father, Yossi Sassi (ex- Orphaned Land) with his band (the Yossi Sassi band) ,including Or Lubianiker and as a part of the Oriental Rock Orchestra .Showed with Bumblefoot, ex- Gun’s & Roses.
