As they came out of the far turn, Beholder had pulled up alongside a free-running Songbird and with every push from Beholder Songbird responded with something more. It wasn’t until the duo came under the shadow of the wire that Beholder finally got her head in front, going out like the queen she is with the narrowest of victories and Songbird losing nothing in her first defeat. It’s not fair to Tamarkuz, but the only thought in my head at the end of the Dirt Mile was sympathy for Runhappy.

That horse just had no business in that race.
