tambolin color and anatomy studies. slowly learning how to paint...
Tambolin studies. Trying different poses and color palettes.
Tams are always some variation of red and slightly lighter, reddish cream color. The most common coloring is probably closest to the top right.
They also have some degree of emotional thought and are rather expressive, but they spend probably the majority of their time being overly fascinated and overly excited about everything.

Lots of sketches! Most of these are armor rat drawings. (Be honest - are there too many rats on my blog? XD) Armor rats are my concept and are still a work in progress. They have keratin plates for protection, and forked prehensile tails for climbing trees, where they find their food - fruit and insects! They aren't rodents, but they are very similar to real rats in appearance. Most of them are sandy colored with dark plates and black feet and ears. Also, have a tambolin, and a furry tirnen face! Pay no attention to his ear. I stuck the wrong kind of ear on him, it wasn't what I was going for with their design. Oops :x Questions, comments and critiques appreciated!
Tambolin sketches to brighten your day. Tams' ears kindof move around with their loose skin. They can raise them when theyre trying to hear something, but for the most part, they flop and roll around all over their necks, or as far as their ear canals will allow for. They have pretty poor hearing for that reason XD but they don't seem to need it. They're thick-skinned, have no predators, and hunt by smell and sight, if they even bother to hunt at all. Because of their loose skin, they also have cheek pouches, just like a hamster. I have this glorious sketch of a tam with two melons in its cheeks SOMEWHERE. I've got to dig it up. it's hilarious. Questions welcome.
Slowly recovering from the loss of my save files and whatnot… Thanks everyone for the kind words.
Meanwhile… Tambolin sketches. Tams are one of my species and probably the ones I’ve managed to flesh out the most. They’re a Marowic species but are found in a few other places, like Mirraige, which is right next door.
Tams are tough-skinned and persistent creatures. They’re very much like ferrets in their behavior, challenging everyone they meet and treating everything like It’s a game. It’s very tough to physically hurt a tam or break is fighting spirit. They’re incredibly stoic and resilient.
Not only that, but they’re resistant to poison and acidic materials, so they will. eat. everything. Literally. Nothing fazes its stomach, so poisonous plants, carrion, leather, tainted water, venomous animals, etc. mean nothing to them. If they do encounter venomous animals and a bite actually manages to pierces the skin, they may be in trouble. Neurotoxins they can handle, but the modified enzymes meant to destroy muscle tissue in many snake venoms can prove to be a problem. It’s difficult to get through to a tams skin, though, and snakes are rarely a problem for them.
When they stop for a snack, they basically just eat whatever happens to be around them at a given time. If they can, they will catch and eat live prey.
Their throats are guarded by a thick scruff and the tough fur all over their bodies. Their skin is very loose and stretchy. Their faces are otter like, though they don’t have whiskers. And they have structures on their paws similar to opposable thumbs… Look up panda paws for an example.
Edit: I forgot to explain the significance of that last pic XD a little joke I have with myself is that Anthino has a pet Tam, and although they are occasionally kept as pets by richer families who have money to spend on damages, Thino doesn’t particularly care for animals and would never get a long with a Tam. He’s got the money to support one, believe me, but he’s far too serious and the whole interaction would just be hilarious XD so there he is yelling at Chachi, his theoretical tam, for eating his house keys.
