Rode 32 miles around Luckenbach today. Luckenbach is literally no more than 5 buildings — including a large, clean, heated bathroom, a small to-go hamburger restaurant, 2 bars, a gift shop/post office — and a HUGE parking lot. Leave yer alcohol at home (and buy from them). But there’s a Cowboy Service Sundays at 9 am. Saw a few deer, a Cara Cara, domesticated goats, sheep, cattle and llamas — and porcupine roadkill. Also got up close and personal with yellowjackets and honey bees. Barry and I out for the second time on the tandem. Barry is 77 and is blind from glaucoma and had not been on a bike for years. I’m honored that he trusted me to pilot him for him first ride back. He loves bombing down the hills and even enjoys riding back up. Don’t ever say you’re too old to start new things. Tandem - Woodside Wander • 7/4/18

With a Close Encounter of the SUV Kind on Tripp. Not sure what was up with that; there were cars turning into the Woodside Junior Riders facility and some were stopped, backing traffic up on Tripp, and this big, black SUV decided to swing out around them—into our lane, and almost into us. They passed close enough for me to touch the side of their car. Which was too close for comfort. Once the adrenaline subsided, the rest of the ride was quite pleasant.

POST Ride on the Coast: A tour of the Cloverdale Coastal Ranches with the Peninsula Open Space Trust  • 6/24/18

With: Richard, Miki, Paula & stoker Cathy. 

Cathy and I brought our tandem, along with our friend Paula with her bike, and joined the Peninsula Open Space Trust at their facility south of Pescadero for a bike ride around POST-protected lands on the San Mateo Coast. We met up with our friend Richard, and our friend Miki there as well, plus about 40 other or so cyclists for this ride through a wide variety of landscapes that make up the 6,391-acre “Cloverdale Coastal Ranches” property, which is protected and available for lease to farmers and ranchers through the efforts of POST.

We rode through redwood forests, rolling grasslands, coastal bluffs, and working row crop fields and rangelands. 

Afterwards we went to Pescadero for lunch at Norms Market / Archangeli Bakery. They do great sandwiches and we got one of their amazing freshly-baked artichoke herb breads as well. While there we ran into Mike & Kevin from Chain Reaction Bikes (I kinda had a feeling we might run into them, as it’s not unusual for them to do a Pescadero loop ride on Sundays.) After, we walked up the block to Downtown Local to check out their collection of funky pop culture relics and some fine coffee.

Woodside Xploro Loopin'on the Tandem • 6/9/18

As we’ve been doing recently on our tandem rides through Woodside, we explored some more side road spurs to see what’s there. Today we found this gorgeous little creek!

And, amazingly, we had a chance encounter with Dan & Ben on their tandem. They were heading back as we were heading out. Hi guys!

Perfect riding weather today, around 70 degrees. Sunny with some puffy white clouds. June in the Bay Area. Well, when we don’t have the ‘June gloom.’
